Most importantly, you should know the reason for getting married. Not everyone gets married for love. There are arranged marriage, marriage of convenience, forced marriage, some people get married because the partner accidentally got pregnant, some girls in India get married because they are forced to...so, it really depends. In some marriages, there's nothing you can do. But if you are in control, then you should really get to know your in-laws very well.
