Facebook: I Will No Longer Create Original Content on Your Platform!

in #quit7 years ago (edited)

5 to 7 years ago Facebook was great for my photography career. But over the past several years I have seen a steady decline in an actual benefit from Facebook. Here's what I posted on my popular Facebook page an hour ago, "I will no longer post original content for Facebook..."

*Me in New York with some Lightenupandshoot Friends

I noticed some big changes a few yeas ago when Facebook made me change my business name, Lightenupandshoot Mikey, to my actual legal name. Then gobs of ads started to appear on my feed. Then there was a notice that FB could do whatever the hell they wanted with my copyrighted images. Then I noticed changes in the algorithms, I no longer noticed friends on the other side of the planet show up in my feed, which resulted in less business for my creative efforts and less interaction with my fans/friends. Facebook slowly has become less important for me business wise. Less photography business is coming my way, I still create the same awesome content but the interaction amongst my community has started dramatically diminish. I have grown as an artist so I don't think I have become stale. I definitely don't receive a monetary benefit from FB like on Steemit. I'm new to Steemit, it's not about the money for me, it's about interaction from a community.

*my last post of FB

When I first started making videos on YouTube seven years ago I also created a FB and Twitter account. I earned a couple hundred bucks every few months from YouTube for a few years and Facebook was a great platform to promote my photography workshops. It has been awesome! But zoom to 2017 and I just don't see the benefit. I'll make a video or write an awesome post and maybe get 25 likes with very little engagement. I don't think my content is stale, I just think FB has changed. What's the benefit of a few likes?

I have decided to CREATE LITTLE OR NO CREATIVE CONTENT ON FACEBOOK. I'm sad to say it, but it's true. I'm not angry, I just don't see the benefit. I may create a new FB account for just my friends, I will say that I have made friends that I would otherwise not have if it weren't for FB. But now I feel as though they are in control and it's affecting me.

*Me in Hong Kong

Steemit has given me a new jump start with creative juices and a drive to create new content. Engage with a new group of people that are a part of the digital currency world.

I see STEEMIT AS A NEW PLATFORM THAT IS SPEARHEADING A NEW ERA AND I WANT TO BE A PART OF IT.

Steemians, if you egg me on, I'm going to produce content which ultimately makes me better as an artist! I love to inspire, I don't care about the money. But! I also hate the fact that I feel like a large corporation like FB/IG is benefiting from my creative content without compensation. How many of my trending posts are deliberately sandwiched around ads designed to grab the attention of my followers? How much money are they making off me without paying me a penny for my creativity? It makes me boil and saddens me. A platform like FB helped me in the beginning, helped me share my passion for photography and now I feel used.

Okay, I admit I'm a little emotional writing this post, but I'm passionate about my work. I'm glad I found Steemit and I hope to meet some new friends here, inspire, create and promote others that I find talented. Steemit is a killer idea and just makes sense in so many ways.

Steem on and screw FB/IG!!!!

*I find this quite funny! Maybe I should spend the 3 bucks to promote this on FB :)

Sort:

Facebook is an internet ghetto. Steemit is the future of social media.

facebook is the internet ghetto , linkedin is a gated community, steemit is like up and coming islnd tiher exonomy like singapore or taiwan or maybe we are like switzerland

It's kind of like the Magna Carta for people that don't want to be censored on the internet.

hey I actually mad a post about how steemit needs a Magna Carta between whales and dolphins funny that u mentioned magna carta!

But the heart of his collection now resides here at the David M. Rubenstein Gallery, an exhibit about legal rights that cost nearly $14 million to construct. The centerpiece of the show: Rubenstein's 1297 copy of the Magna Carta, one of four believed to be in existence, and the only one that's privately owned.Mar 31, 2014

ha cool

Well put!!!!!

I couldn't have said it better myself!

Looking forward to your work!

You better believe I will put out some cool content!

FB is rigged!

I now see the light my friend.

I'm fading out facebook as well...
There has been too much content farms already.
Same style of videos with same collections of background music...

I agree with the weird styles that trend and somehow get millions of views with little to no substance. Why compete against the girl who paints her toe nails with 5 million subs? Ha!

Those videos drive me crazy, especially the ones with the random emphasis in weird colors on the subtitles...

Bring it!

steemit is replacing fb

Steemit makes sense in so many ways. i feel used by FB, they take my trending posts and put ads next to my followers. It sickens me that they don't share the money they earn from my hard work.

Way to go! I applaud you!

Just followed and you!

Followed you back!!!

Thanks so much, @lightenup

!!!! Thank you!!!!

You're quite welcome, my friend! :)

Great move. I'm sorry they have gone so corporate. Please make sure to post there that you're moving to Steemit. :)

I did post the past week several times about Steemit on FB and IG, I got literally no responses, comments or likes. i'm not sure if my posts were suppressed or just didn't get any response because the majority of people aren't familiar with block chain/steemit. Interesting to say the least.

That's possible. Thanks for trying. People will notice Steemit very soon. ;)

yeah you have to spend 3$ to promote post to your owns followers ....

"It's not about the money"... - same to me, but if someone has the possibility to get a reward for his great work, his knowledge and the experiences he made and for the passion he shares to a community like steemit is, than the hell this payout should go the creator of this content himself and not to the "Suckerbegrs" in this world, earning billions on our back by stealing our freedom of free expression... - of free speech just as they like.

I've never been on a social platform before and I didn't regret for one lil second to jump onto the steemit train!

No trolling. Every made reply serves the creator to improve his skills even further, it's like gas for the car, like a breath for a man because every single one of us needs some positive return to flourish the best he can!

Keep on doing your great and inspiring work!

Really well said my friend!

I agree. Thanks for the articles. Well written. It will be interesting to see how this community grows and if it will change.

You are a quick learner @lightenup, you have talent and passion (and that big Nikon 😉), soon you'll forget about Fakebook. Keep steeming!

I ONLY ever post steemit postsvto Facebook and never any more Facebook exclusives but I have already been using Instagram to post to Facebook anyway and I really would use Facebook on its own but every time I use Instagram posts to Facebook Twitter and Tumblr and Flickr at the same time and imagine if we had steam it integration of course they're never gonna do that for us but if we have a room plug-in especially for something like WordPress oh my God first to Ken made an amazing post about how you could make your own word press plugin for Wordpress's to post your blog post to steemit automatically but none has made one yet

Interesting idea about the WordPress plug-in; I was just thinking how I'd like the interface to be a little prettier or allow a little more design freedom. I may make my posts inside of Photoshop as one big image.

Im right with you brother! Ive been on steemit for 4 days and Ive happily spent more time here than Facebook. Sure I'm minus all my friends and followers but like you Ive noticed "they" are in control and we are allowing their growth via our contribution. No more!!

Ill slowly be moving some of my friends and followers over to steemit very soon.

I love your work and I'm glad I found you.
:) followed

I got a carton of eggs... Let's see what you got! I am an amateur photographer/videographer looking for more direction and inspiration. This is a great post and I'm excited to view more of your content.

I left for the same exact reason. Just wasn't worth it. Nice to know I'm not alone in my thinking!
