This is Ivan. While his name is a common one, his skills are not. Ivan is a pipe maker. Yes, a real craftsman. Probably one of the hand-full left in Bulgaria. His pipes are unique, fully hand-made, they have a soul. He is a modest yet very talented person. I enjoyed every minute I spent talking to him. Suddenly it appeared we have close common friends as well. True, Bulgaria is so small :)
Let me tell you now why this photo is different.
This is an unorthodox portrait in terms of focal length. I used a wide angle lens which forces me to come very close to my subject in order to "fill" the frame. I took this portrait while my lens was about 30 cm from his face, virtually at the physical limit of it, as the Minimal Focus Distance of this lens is about 28 cm or about 11 inches. I believe getting so close to the person adds some character to the photo, a feeling that can't be explained. Do you see it? :)
Oh, by the way on this photo he is testing a newly created pipe.

Ahaha. Nice photo but that must have been a little awkward for the model! 😁
Yes, it was. But I ask in advance and after that the conversation is always easier to continue on :P :))) Thanks :)
i like smoking tobacco with a pipe. My wife has many pipes. frankly he wants to make his own pipe. there is no courage for this yet. perfect portrait. I liked the dramatic effect of black and white, focus. congratulations my dear friend..
Thank you! From what I saw, making a pipe isn't easy at all, and takes some time, actually a lot ;) But do give some encouragement, it could be fun and quite artistic :)
hahaha actually it would be nice if there were not more different equipment at home! :)) it may be up to me to collect the mess. !! I wish you a good day.
Tell me about mess! I've decided to start a small masonry project in our garden and it's getting messier by each day! I'll put a post once done, I hope it become really beautiful ;) Have a great day yourself too! :)
Meanwhile, I mentioned my husband. Google translate translated incorrectly..
English isn't my mother's tongue too, no worries :)
Such a strong portrait, especially with the use of black and white. I love filling the frame and getting the most for my money. :)
I am still playing with which wide will work best for what. I am glad I found you through @hairofmedusa!!

Much appreciated! To be honest, for my portraits I like the most my 135 mm f/2.0 lens which is crystal sharp and simply perfect on the full frame body ;) But sometimes it's good to break the rules and experiment ;)
Thank you! I am a true rule breaker! :)
Great :D Cheers

Very beautiful photography! 😍 The black and white effect gives it another character to the portrait! Awesome! 😍
