RE: Does 'Reverse Discrimination' Exist?

in #racism8 years ago

@veralynn You know why reverse racism doesn't exist? It has absolutely nothing to do with what you're talking about.

It doesn't exist because "reverse racism", is just racism.
Anyone can be a racist. It's a natural thing and a fundamental part of human nature. (see my comments to @diamondlou in the link)

Here's how this works. You make any sort of judgement about a person by the color of their skin, you're being a racist. That's ANY sort of judgement. Good or bad. Doesn't matter who you are, or how oppressed you feel or what your heritage is or even if they are the same color as you.

You make a judgement about a person based on skin tone, you're a racist.
Own it, cuz it's all on you!

The same thing holds for sexism. You judge a person by what's between their legs, any sort of judgement. That's sexism. It is exactly what sexism is.
Trying to redefine it into some victimization BS is just causing you to lose points with both audiences (those you accuse of being oppressors and those you accuse of being oppressed).

Your posting shows a shocking amount of bigotry. Then you try to justify your own bigotry by appealing to the words of other bigots. Doesn't matter who they were or what they did or what magazine hailed their brilliance. Being stupid is just being stupid and bigotry is a state of mind.

No need to mince words here, no need to split hairs. Bigotry is when you think you are better than someone. That someone "needs your help", based on some value judgement you've made about some quality in their life. A life that frankly is none of your business and shouldn't be any of your concern unless they are reaching out to you directly.

Only when you stop judging people, will you actually stop being a bigot.

I know it feels like a slap in the face, but yes that's what you're doing here, you're being a bigot. You're saying

"Oh no dem poor colored folk can't stand up for themselves, they're a minority"
They're only 75% of the population!

First billionaire in the music industry was Dr Dre. Carlos Slim is Mexican and he's the 4th wealthiest man in the world. Both pulled themselves up from levels of poverty you can't even begin to comprehend.
(notice I said colored, because I'm talking about everyone who doesn't meet your definition of white male, BTW most Jews I know are whiter than I am).

You're also saying
"Oh noes! Dem poor womyn folk, can't get ahead cuz da evil menz!"

Allow me to introduce you to Hillary Clinton, Carly Fiorina, Marissa Meyer, Mia Love, literally this list is endless.

You down play their accomplishments and insult all of them by saying that somehow they didn't have the power to take charge of their own lives. That somehow this was handed to them. That the men folk, lowered the bar a bit so they could hop over it.

This is an insult to them and it's insulting everyone else who works for their success.

We have blacks, asians, latinos and yes even whites in all places and all ranks of power. They come in all shapes and sizes, all colors and all genders (hint to feminists, there's more than two genders).

You know what got them there? It wasn't the color of their skin. It was that they worked their asses off to get what they've got.

When you tell us, that they can't do it because "oh no they're being oppressed by mean white males", you're telling everyone that they're just a victim of the system.

This victimization argument is a story that weakens everyone who buys into it. Those listening to the story and those who tell it.
Oh no I can't go to college because I'm just a poor black kid from the ghetto. Oh no I can't go into STEM because I'm just a girl and men won't hire me.

Truth, the smartest person I EVER met was a 19 year old black girl who grew up in Compton and spent most of her life being passed around from foster home to foster home. Yet she went to college, and was interning at Intel and was teaching ME about ASIC design when I got there. She's not the exception here and I promise you, this young lady was no diversity hire.

She's the rule and she's the right example to follow, but you need to give people the right message.

We have a melting pot here in the USA. This "hyphenated" American garbage is the real danger to our society.
African-American, Mexican-American, Asian-American, etc.

You try to identify with some subset that is refusing to assimilate into the broader american culture, you wonder why people view you as an outsider?

It's because you're acting like an outsider.

I walk down the street at night, I see a young black man. I don't say "oh my goodness Maud, it's a negro! I didn't know we had their kind in our neighborhood. " I also don't think to myself "Oh look there's an african-american, wonder what I should do?".

I just see an american kid. That's it. Truth is I have more in common culturally and probably genetically than I do with some Canadian guy.

Screw your hyphenated separatist BS. If your feet are touching American soil you're an American! Start acting like one and me and all the other American mudbloods will treat you like one. (note to all white supremacists, you ain't pure white either, better go get tested for it).

Again this all comes down to a dialog based on fear. Stop the fear mongering, stop the divisiveness, stop your own bigotry and quit trying to make others feel like they should feel guilty for getting what they earned through their own blood sweat and tears. Most of all quit trying to put your own irrational self resentment on everyone else. You're only calling out as "bad" in others what you fear about yourself.

Realize that when you speak, you have an audience and that audience is diverse and looking to you for guidance. You owe each and every one of them a duty of care.

There are life altering decisions people make and you're filling their minds with a bunch of defeatist BS, inspiring fear because they aren't in some "blessed majority" that hasn't actually been the case for decades.
Each time you do this,
You're missing a message of empowerment. The only message that really matters.

There are bigots, racists and sexists in every culture and in all walks of life. There isn't single "group" that has it worse off than any other.

We all have trouble we have to deal with, but that doesn't mean we define ourselves by those troubles.

There is incredible power in choosing not to be a victim, a power that only you have. But it's a choice you have to make. You act like a victim, you are going to get victimized. Seize control of your own destiny though...
And you have all the power in the world!

Hate? Blame the victims? Did you somehow miss the point that i went to great lengths to explain?

When you call people "victim" you are being a bigot and propegating negative stereotypes. You are encouraging a defeatest mentality and doing far more to hold them back than all the "outright" bigots, racists, sexists. Could ever hope to achieve.

Stop being a bigot.

Im somehow missing your point.
#payitforward is a content discovery game being run on top of steemit. This topic did not invite that game so i didnt play it here.

Enlighten me, how is a game that helps to uncover and curate content relevant to me informing the op that their views are bigotted?
