RE: USA Racism Discussions. . . I just can't

in #racism7 years ago (edited)

Personally I find the whole society polarization in USA scary.
(Not that society elsewhere is not polarized)

I don't care if your ancestors have lived mainly in a cold or warm climate.
I don't care what your sexual orientation is.
I don't care if you lean left, right or in any other direction politically.

You are still human being to me.

Here is an interesting story from my childhood :
In my mother tongue the N word was a direct translation for a black person.
That was the way it was written in the books, that was the way people talked.
And there wasn't a iota of racist undertone (in my eyes).

My society is predominantly white and if you saw a person with another skin color, they ware just more interesting because of their difference.
Nothing more.

Things are different now. No one uses the N word.
Any mention of ones ancestors (as in african american) or skin color ( as in black person ) gets self censured.

The thing is. Racism divide us and births supremacism. It feeds our unconscious need to feel accepted (by our small tribe) and better than everyone else (not part of it).

And unconscious need to form tribes and divide ourselves is more primal than any racist, sexist or political divide.

It doesn't matter where your skin color is on the Pantone color space.. you'll unconciously feel closer to the ones you feel are the same and better than the ones that differ.

That is the mammal in you, but we are humans. We could do better.

Disclaimer : I am white heterosexual male living outside of USA. I have my own biases.
