Two Summers ago, I went on a trip with my family up to the wild and wonderful West Virginia to visit a little old town called Cass.
This town is prized for it’s scenic railroad that’s been around since 1901. Originally used to haul lumber up to the mill, this railway has since become a tourist attraction where people can purchase tickets to ride all the way up the mountain side and view the spectacular scenery. You’ll learn that some of the passenger cars were used as a part of the original locomotive and have been maintained over the years.
With tickets only costing $61 (per adult), the trip starts in the town of Cass and takes you 11 miles up the side of Bald Knob, the trip lasting for about 4.5 hours. The trip includes a lunch and tour guide sharing with you stories of the railway's history.
Bald Knob is known to be the 3rd highest point in West Virginia with an amazing overlook to reward the long ride up.
If ever in the area, I would recommend taking the opportunity to relive history and enjoy a relaxing scenic ride along the Cass Scenic Railroad. Check out this site for more information: http://mountainrailwv.com/tour/cass-scenic-railroad-bald-knob-trip/
