Stuck

in #rainyweather3 years ago

I always loved taking photos on my phone and thinking of a time when I will be able to share my masterpieces with the world, and I’m so glad that I’m able to do it now. I do post some of my photos on Instagram but I only have a handful of followers there so the purpose of sharing them with the world is not met. I was also a photojournalist (though the purpose of photojournalism is different from photography, they do share some fundamentals) when I was in seventh grade up until I was in tenth grade so I think I've learned something when it comes to photography. I was supposed to post this in a community but for some reason I am unable to do so, so I'll just post it here.

It was a Thursday afternoon and I’ve just got out of my shift. I didn’t bring my umbrella to work because though it had been raining for a week, that day the sky was clear. I rode a bus on my way home and I noticed that the sky was getting darker because clouds are gathering. I know that there is an impending rain but I have to finish my errands first before going home. I’m currently staying at an apartment and it is not far from the place I need to go to first but it’s closing soon so I need to do it first.

There was an ongoing construction there and the place outside was quite busy. The construction workers are working on the signage of the place. It may have been damaged from the previous typhoons that hit us.

There are a few people inside, me, the clerk, and two other customers. I was the last person that arrived therefore I got entertained last. While I was waiting for the clerk to be finished I looked outside and I see that it started to drizzle. I rushed outside after we’re done with our transaction but the downpour have started already. The construction workers scrambled while trying to clean and organize their equipment so that it will not be wet and damaged by the rain. Some went inside, while others just waited outside hoping for the rain to pass quickly. I was one of the people who just waited outside.

I knew that it was just a passing rain so I decided to just wait. I saw kids playing in the rain, chasing each other despite of being in the center of the street where vehicles passes through. I also saw people like me who were stuck without an umbrella waiting for the rain to pass. I was just standing there looking around when inspiration hit me and I decided to pick my phone out of my pocket and started taking pictures. I took a lot of pictures but these three are the only pictures that caught my eye.

After half an hour, I noticed that the rain started to subside. It is still strong in a way that when you stepped outside in the rain, you’ll be wet within a minute so I didn’t risk it. Aside from that, I would need to cross the street. The pedestrian light takes about 5-7 minutes to be red before it goes green and surely I’ll be drenched in rain like a wet chick because of it. I just waited in front of the place I went to, luckily they have a shade that hinders not only the sun from hurting you but from the rain keeping you away from being wet, as well.

While waiting for the rain to completely stop, I put my phone away and just observed the whole scenario. Vehicles waiting for the stoplight to turn green. Different kinds of people in different types of vehicles. Some are comfortable in their private cars, others are struggling to keep themselves from being wet while being in a packed space of Jeepneys, and some are just letting the rain hit them because they are already wet, they are driving their motorcycle, and they can’t do anything about it anymore. It made me realize that there are a lot of ways how we handle problems and live life. Some are already privileged and have the capabilities to be comfortable even if piles of problems are showing up, some are just surviving their everyday life by putting effort into it, and some have the mindset of “it is what it is and there’s nothing we can do about it”, while some people, like me, who is very unprepared either is stuck in a place or take risks. I am both.

Sometimes, things are very overwhelming to the point that I am stuck and I can’t do anything. I just stare at things like a deer in the headlights and I know that it has consequences. But sometimes I’m overconfident with my capabilities and it produces good results in my life. It’s just that like this rain, my passion for things subsides gradually until it becomes a full stop, and then I forget about it. I know I need to put more effort into being consistent so that I can achieve success in life. I’m trying, and I’m doing my best.
