Working just because things work is called rajsik guna. I.e. doing things just for profit or even just for maintaining superficial social justice creates an unstable equilibrium. Basically society remains functional, but people still live a hellish life to maintain that. If something stops working, or if it requires ugly means, things can get bad real soon, and easily dwells into dysfunctional society with tamsik nature which is the case today. That is why it is said asuras had really big citadels and vimanas (flying planes). Asuras are said to be far more advanced than gods and humans, but common people suffered more as these used to create maya (a very false perception of life), and gods often have to intervene to destroy citadels, like what happens to tripura or ravan's lanka. If someone does something just because something feels right and not expect anything in return, they r free (mukta), that is satvik, and that creates a stable functional society with no mass suffering. Ofcourse not everyone is expected to be satvik, because forceful satvik turns tamsik. So, everyone should be true to their nature, and try to subdue their tamsik nature, then rajsik naturally turns satvik. For many men who are naturally satvik, if they stick to their true nature, they can win worlds. In fact trying to be rajsik turns them tamsik. This is why capitalism doesn't really work on many people like me, and it makes me dysfunctional. I just can't work in incentive based society, not because i am morally upright or something, just because it is painful to me and makes me run for things i dont want. For me it is far easy to live frugal but free. In rajsik societies the problem is many people of satvik nature are forced to become capitalists, which they are not able to and fail and become tamsik, miserable and evil.
