Because other people are better putting into words how I feel after yesterday’s US election, I’d like to share a bit of today’s New York Times.

Donald Trump told Americans exactly what he planned to do.

He would use military force against his political opponents. He would fire thousands of career public servants. He would deport millions of immigrants in military-style roundups. He would crush the independence of the Department of Justice, use government to push public health conspiracies and abandon America’s allies abroad. He would turn the government into a tool of his own grievances, a way to punish his critics and richly reward his supporters. He would be a “dictator” — if only on Day One.

And, when asked to give him the power to do all of that, the voters said yes.

This was a conquering of the nation not by force but with a permission slip. Now, America stands on the precipice of an authoritarian style of governance never before seen in its 248-year history.

Lisa Lerner - New York Times

Over 71 million of you rolled over and thought, that is the future for me!

What a complete and utter disgrace. You elected a man who deep throated a mic just a day or two ago. A felon. A man who has openly bragged about grabbing women’s vaginas. A man who talked about putting a political opponent in front of a firing squad, and who called POW’s losers. You have bought into a narcissistic con artist who lies so often that people have lost all sense of truth and fact. He tells you our cities are dangerous hellscapes filled with evil immigrants eating dogs, and from your small towns you clutched your pearls and believed him.

The cognitive dissonance of the Republican Party is mind boggling.

MAGA spent the last few days mourning a New York State squirrel somehow thinking that their lord savior Donald Trump was a protector of animals. Completely disassociating from the fact his son trophy hunts in Africa, and that Donald Trump himself rolled back OVER 100 environmental protections when he was last in office.

Do you think Donald Trump is really going to make your groceries cheaper? Well, I guess cheaper groceries FAR OUTWEIGHS a woman’s right to bodily autonomy. (And before you come at me about a woman’s right to bodily autonomy being a State’s issue… NO. Just no. (ESPECIALLY NO if you were/are one of the vocal Hive users that spoke so LOUDLY about vaccines.)

Speaking of women…

Donald Trump has been accused of sexually assaulting 27 women! HERE is an article from the Guardian about 23 of them. I know you all hate Jeffry Epstein and P Diddy (which you 100% should) and all of those “Hollywood Elites”, but rapey presidents must be OK? Especially, rapey presidents who have had their own TV shows. I guess it shows his virility… because the Republican Party would NEVER want a doddering old man to be president.

Biden’s age at inauguration - 78 years, 2 months and 1 day; Trump’s age at his next inauguration -78 years, 7 months, 7 days.

I am sure many Republicans think those women made it up. Women have been causing trouble for men since the times of Adam and Eve. Don’t trust women with their bodies. Don’t trust women who deny men access to their bodies. Don’t trust women’s votes. And remember women are especially untrustworthy and invaluable if they are single, or childless, or own cats Because how can you have any sense of morality or investment in our country’s future if you aren’t attached to man or bearing fruit from your loins?

Funny that Republican politicians and talking heads never mention the loose morals of single, childless men… 🤔

We also can’t forget the eternal hard on Donald Trump seems to have for dictators and oligarchs. Trump loves a strong man - Putin, Kim Jong-Un, Belarus’s Alexander Lukashenko. Republican’s have historically loved the military, hated Russia, and viewed the US as a protector of the world. Yet somehow are OK with Trump cozying up with our nation’s adversaries and suddenly want an end to NATO. Do people forget history that quickly? As the last folks who lived through World War II pass away, are people forgetting these alliances and economic partnerships were forged to create stability?

On the right leaning echo chamber of the Hive Blockchain, I have heard a lot about leftist, libtard, snowflakes, evil Nancy Pelosi, and the “Dem’s” various schemes to overthrow the government. Sounds like a lot of paranoia from the folks who brought us the insurrection/Capitol attack of 2021.

Quite frankly, I am sick of silently sitting in discords where people spew this garbage. We all know Democrats just do things like knit protest caps with cat ears. Seething away while their popular vote winning candidates lose elections due to hanging chads and the disproportionate vote weight the electoral college grants to unpopulated conservative states.

Oh wait, Dems also go into schools and prisons to force gender reassignment surgeries. I forgot that bit.

But lucky for the Qanon loving, god fearing, conservative, conspiracy theorists, this time Trump won it all.

He’s won the election by an incontestable amount (popular and electoral). The Republican Party has the senate. The Supreme Court is stacked with bribe accepting, sexual misconduct accused, politically conservative justices. If they are lucky the power in the House of Representatives will also tip in the Republican’s favor.

And I am here for it.

You can’t blame the dems if you have it all. Let the shit show begin! Tariffs instead of taxes? Sure! Economists hate the idea, but what to they know? Elon Musk potentially in a cabinet position? Sure! What good is being rich if you can’t use that money to spread conservative propaganda, in order to garner favor for the government contracts you want to get later? Sure, he might have worked here illegally as an immigrant for a little bit, but at least he isn’t the dog eating kind of immigrant.

Down with social security. Down with Medicare for all. Enjoy being denied insurance coverage for those pesky pre-existing medical conditions you might have. Why read books and get an education? An educated proletariat is bad. Fire teachers who even hint that the nation’s history of slavery and segregation still has repercussions today. Ban all the books!

Who needs fluoride or any vaccines? Robert Kennedy Jr. will protect us (after he is done skinning a road kill bear and leaving it on a bike path in Central Park). He definitely probably traded his endorsement of Trump for the promise of a cabinet position. Sure he started his campaign as a Democrat, and rumor has it he wanted to endorse Kamala to get a spot on HER potential cabinet. ALL. THAT. ASIDE… We can treat all those kids who will start to sick from easily preventable childhood diseases. Polio might be fun? And think of the increases in manufacturing jobs as America builds new iron lungs!

Don’t forget how bad the economy is now. It will be so much better after spending billions to round up illegal immigrants. Just make sure you have your papers if your skin is a little tan! Oh, and speaking of a bad economy, I am sure it will be booming by January 20. All thanks to President Trump. He will have fixed all the bad from creepy Joe and evil Kamalala by then.

Flippant attitude aside…

I am tired. Tired of trans kids and adults having hate spewed upon them as an election cycle talking point. Tired of gun violence being the number one killer of America’s kids. Tired of intelligent women losing jobs (including presidencies) to foul, misogynist, self-absorbed, bros. Tired of a party that claims it is all about freedom but then supports policies that take away women’s reproductive choice; and elects a man who frequently threatens arrest and physical harm to folks who disagree with him.

Nothing embodies the party of family values, like a little spite and revenge.

It’s all good though.

Last night I didn’t want to hear about, nor talk about the election. Partly, due to my own anxiety over the outcome. Partly, because it shits me to the depths of my soul to see folks casually supporting someone I find to be so vile. But you will get what you’ve voted for… I will just bide my time during this Orwellian nightmare waiting for the next election.

Because at least he can’t get elected again.

Right? 😳

July 27 - Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump… was speaking at an event organized by the conservative group Turning Point Action in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Trump said: "Christians, get out and vote, just this time. "You won't have to do it anymore. Four more years, you know what, it will be fixed, it will be fine, you won't have to vote anymore, my beautiful Christians."
He added: "I love you Christians. I'm a Christian. I love you, get out, you gotta get out and vote. In four years, you don't have to vote again, we'll have it fixed so good you're not going to have to vote," Trump said.

Sort:

The messaging in this election was amazing. Biden had improved the economy. Looking at the data, things have not been this good since the 60s. Biden had started easing us off neo-liberalism, which Reagan has put us on and we have been on since, good old Reaganomics where the rich get tax cuts and that is suppose to magically stimulate the economy, that same failed policy that even at the time was called idiotic by leading economists in the world and has been proven in the years since to do nothing more than move wealth from the 99% to the 1%. Biden was deconstructing it. Finally! This is exactly what everyone wants.

But the GOP messaging was that the economy was the worst it has ever been—objectively not true. Inflation happened, but wages went up more (on average). That Biden caused everything—objectively not true. That he was implementing policies to make it worse—objectively not true. It completely blows my mind that the GOP was able to get working class people to vote against what they really wanted by just outright lying.

Everything Trump has proposed will make the economy worse. But the GOP lies and says it will magically cure everything. People believe it... but we shouldn't be surprised. People are busy, they are not experts. The Democrats didn't help. They just attacked Trump as an autocrat and said electing him will be the end of democracy, then called everyone stupid for believing what the GOP says. Yeah... great messaging... that will really win you votes. You can still see this attitude now. Trump won, and what do Democrats do? They call everyone who voted for Trump an idiot. Is it any wonder they keep losing?

I'm afraid of the next 4 years. I'm not afraid Trump will grab power and it will be the end of democracy. Even surrounded by yes-men this time—which wasn't the case last time—I think if he tried that, people would stop him. Given how bad he's looked the past few months, I think it's more likely he dies in office and we have to deal with Vance—not a good prospect, but remember before sucking up to Trump, he was against Trump and the MAGAs, calling them too extreme. No, what I'm afraid of is that Trump will not only put us back on failed neo-liberalism—Reagannomics—but that he will put it into hyperdrive and the rich will get even richer while the middle class suffers and the working class is just put into misery.

It is as it is. The letter Bernie put out after the election was spot on. "It should come as no great surprise that a Democratic Party which has abandoned working class people would find that the working class has abandoned them. First, it was the white working class, and now it is Latino and Black workers as well."

If u ever wanna talk to a Trump voter u know here on Hive about there thoughts let me know. I think I can probably explain why many of us who normally don’t vote that way did. And why many democrats I know stayed home or voted third party. We might respectfully disagree on them but there’s just as valid a reasons dime of us went Trump as I’m sure u had valid reasons going other way. We can respectfully disagree. But reading ur comment it sounds like u honestly don’t understand how so many voted Trump. As someone who did for first time I’m done to have a respectfully chat. Cheers! !PIMP

Actually I've enjoyed our political talks in the past, Gene. You always offer me a new perspective.

I was angry when I wrote that comment. Not necessarily at Republicans, people who vote Republican, Trump, MAGAs, or Democrats who stayed at home and cost Harris the election—I was mostly pissed off at the Democratic party for never learning their lesson and for treating their own voters badly, leading to many of them staying at home, for their terrible messaging, for their contempt. I mean I don't like Trump or the MAGAs, but they were just doing what they always do. I suppose the Democrats were as well, doing as they always do, at least since Clinton yanked them to the center. Before that they weren't quite the losers they have become. I mean they kind of were, but at least there was an honesty to them then and they supported the working class. I was happy with Bernie's angry takedown of the party after the election.

I still don't really understand why anyone who support Trump. But I do completely see why so many Democrats stayed home and allowed Harris to lose.

Yes to everything you have said.

And in my own much less eloquent way…

Trump is just a classic snake oil salesman. He has mastered the art of manipulating, never apologizing, never acknowledging any of his own contradictions. And he just says things over and over and over and over so that people believe him. And then the internet magnifies what he says. So you can go online and find “source” after “source” quoting his truth. So it feeds into the illusion he has created.

It is a troubling time.

I wonder how many policies Trump has touted will be implemented. And then I wonder when people feel the implications in their wallets if they will realize they were complicit in what has come.

But then the scary thing is they won’t. And will probably further and perhaps more violently place the blame of vulnerable populations of people.

☹️

I honestly wish I could upvote this more than once 😕

Love ya KG 🩷

Well said Dfinn

Yep. Politicians, especially at this level of government, are among the most vile folks on earth and the fact that a person with that track record can be elected president is evidence that there is something wrong with our system and the people.
Did Kamala win the popular vote?

Nah. She got like 67 million and Trump got 71 million. So weeee USA.

Oh but Trump did get 4m less votes that 2020 and Kamala got a shitload less than Biden did in 2020. So… not as many people came out to vote.

Trump got more than he did in 2020. Still going. I’d assume they both for another million or so. Still couple million out. Actually she’ll prolly get 70% of the last couple million out cause it’s heavy blue states pending. So maybe 76.5 million to her 74.4 million or so most likely.

I voted Trump. Only time in my life I voted for a major party. It wasn’t Trump but things like putting RFK in his admin. Which he need official today. Best vote I ever cast for these clowns.

Well, I guess that's good for you then. I don't vote. Our system is broken. the country is run by cooperate masters that serve nothing but their own interests and it's a travesty. I don't know what the answer is, but I have a strong feeling it is not to just continue status quo and hope it gets better.

!PIMP

I don’t think this Trump team is just the old regular republican establishment. I love the RFK pick to run HHS. RFK is the real deal on that stuff, The crony elites and big pharma are going nuts. I’m sure 90% will be biz as usual. But seeing him actually putting in people who wanna take on big food and big pharmaceutical is wild and as u says normally it doesn’t matter but this is a real fight. It’s interesting, normally libertarians get 3% of national vote but this year it’s .04% a 90% drop. Many libertarians endorsed Trump for two reasons, to pardon Ross , second to bring in RFK to fight big pharmaceutical & big processed poison food. It’s real. I’ll take it. !PIMP

Dude, you had ALL of hive to go bond with your Trump/RFK lovin’ bros. Why’d you have to come Trump all over my comment section?

Not cool. Not appreciated.

It wasn't that best news I woke up to this morning. I feel your frustration and I'm across the pond.

Too many contributed to this mess, including Biden who hung on for way too long leaving little time for any capable person to step in

It is a cluster all around.

Its true. Us Trump voters are very thankful for Biden. He helped Trump 💯. But mainly by endorsing Harris when the democrat elites wanted to run a mini primary and not pick Harris out right. He forced there hand after they threatened to 25th amendment him.
