Good morning, Steemians!
Being vegan for 4 years and vegetarian for 9, watching leaders in the vegan and raw vegan community on YouTube has been intriguing. I've flirted with the idea of 'going raw' before but always find my way back to cooked vegan. I love rice, pasta, and other cooked vegan dishes, but my mind wanders thinking about what it's like to only eat raw fruits and vegetables. I remember when I did 7 or 10 days of banana island (only eating bananas for that many days) I felt I could breathe better, my digestion was better, and I only ate when hungry. I'm now on Day 3 of eating only raw foods.
I'd like to make a list of foods I've eaten in the past few days to not only document what I've been eating but also to share in the hopes that someone who also is interested in 'going raw' might find it useful.
**My morning meals always consist of fruit, without fail. generally I will take 5-10 bananas to work with me and that will usually curb hunger until I get home at around 2:00pm. I used to eat dates but stopped because they were expensive. I bought some more the other day because they are a good source of calorie dense raw fruit. Also, I have about 15 mulberry trees that I've planted and some are fruiting now, so I will eat those when they're ripe. My oranges on my Hamlin orange tree are also almost ripe, so I will eat those. I've been harvesting papayas lately too, and the variety that I have tastes like sweet honey. They're just delicious. I always make sure to plant out the seeds of my papayas so I can enjoy many more in the future. I usually don't buy pineapples, but I bought one the other day to eat. I am going through a lot of tomatoes, avocados, and lemons as well as these three go together nicely. I will often eat romaine lettuce, cucumbers, and red bell peppers with the trio I just mentioned, too.
Things to look for when shopping
Fruits and veg that are on sale and in season! You can spend some serious money if you buy avocados in the winter, but I've been going to Aldi, where they are $1.29 each. Sometimes Winn-Dixie has them for $1 each, but usually they're $2 there so I won't buy them.
Sometimes I will just blend up tomatoes and lemon with a little celery and either eat some avocado on the side or blend that in too and make a tomato soup like this one pictured.
Well, that's about it for now. If any of you have any good raw recipes or ideas, please let me know! I'm optimistic about the whole thing and can't wait to see how long I can do it.
Love the avocados pic. Eating raw is so good for you.
I currently more than 50% of my calories from raw juice I make. I'm aiming at raw too. I've been vegan for more than 2 years now and vegetarian for 5 before that.
Wow that's a lot of juice! I'm more of a blender kind of guy because I like the fiber as well. I used to juice a lot more but gave my juicer away to a friend a few years ago. Maybe I should get another one again :D
I use to do a lot of smoothies but I now prefer juice.
Good luck for your raw vegan journey, not everybody lucky to follow raw vegan diet. Keep posting updates. Thanks Upvoted!
As of now there is no such thing as an ideal human diet. Everyone has their own choice of meals taking into consideration their tastes and health. As long as people find a balance between their choice of healthy and delicious foods , it's all good. Apart from this i think everyone know's the contents of a balanced diet (it's elementary stuff) which they can alwaysfollow if they want to.
Good luck on your journey! I haven't made any sort of leap toward that type of diet, though I can easily imagine myself doing so. I do really enjoy your posts about it!!
Good Luck, It is a great way to eat and you will feel better and Avocados should play a big part. Great photos!
It's funny how everyone (generally) thinks that the vegan diet is restrictive, and yet there's actually a bunch of vegan diets you can choose. I started on raw, but it's just to time consuming if you're doing gourmet raw. Banana island would obvioulsy be a time saver.
That said, I totally love raw vegan restaurants. The food is always amazing.
How about raw cashews? I know they are a bit expensive but loaded with good stuff. You can blend a few into your soup for some kick-ass creaminess, and if you have a decent blender you don't even have to soak the nuts. Keep on keeping on my man, I love your dedication.
Nut allergy :-/
**NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! **
Lol
What really inspires me is that you feel so well eating such row stuff. From the ecologically point of view however veganism doesn't make sense, because every cheap avocado, banana or other fresh exotic fruit needs to be flown in. If you live in a cold wet country you will have a hard time with only local vegan food.
Love your pictures.
This might be true for raw veganism, but eating normal vegan food is possible in every country or climate. It's pretty easy to buy local and seasonal food that is vegan. There is no need to eat avocados etc. whatsoever.
I love eating raw! Just fruits, veggies and nuts, that is how! Keep it up!
I am looking forward to hear more of your raw journey. I've thought about it as well, but I think it's only doable in a warm or tropical country. I seriously need my potatoes, pasta, curries and warm soups in winter, haha
I would tend to agree. It's a lot more natural to eat raw in a tropical/subtropical location. However, today, we can all get raw food at the store, so it's doable, but yes, the warmth of cooked food says a lot :D
great content!

I love the idea of raw. I don't think I could do it at this time in my life, but maybe in the near future.
