Algunos investigadores sugieren diferenciar los rayos de los relámpagos. Los rayos son descargas eléctricas naturales que ocurren principalmente durante tormentas eléctricas y que es capaz de precipitarse a tierra. Por su parte el relámpago también es una descarga eléctrica que se forma en las nubes, pero que nunca llega a tierra aun y cuando se divise su posible llegada. Otra característica interesante entre estos fenómenos naturales, es que la descarga eléctrica esta acompañada por un haz de luz, que es lo que define al relámpago, pero ese mismo has de luz es fundamental en el rayo, así pues todos los rayos son en parte relámpagos, mas no todos los relámpagos terminan siendo un rayo. Una reflexión final acerca del tema seria que el rayo como tal es el origen del relámpago y por ende del trueno.

Some researchers suggest differentiating rays of lightning. Rays are natural electrical discharges that occur mainly during thunderstorms and able to rush ashore. On the other hand the lightning is also an electrical discharge that forms in the clouds, but that never arrives at earth even and when its possible arrival is descried. Another interesting feature among these natural phenomena is that the electric discharge is accompanied by a beam of light that is what defines the lightning, but that same light has is fundamental in the beam, so all the rays are partly lightning, more Not all lightning ends up being lightning. A final reflection on the subject would be that the ray as such is the origin of the lightning and therefore of the thunder.
