hi!

in #reading8 years ago

I have recently rediscovered reading. Not in the literal sense, but in the sense of the true experience of taking a brief vacation into the minds of people smarter than you are. Escaping from the comparative banality of 'living' and fully immersing yourself in a story that has already been told. A story that has moulded the minds of countless people in the world.

Novels are an invaluable outlet. The process of reading words that are new to you but as old as the printing press which brings them to you.

It's so easy to be distracted by a world that seems to lack rhyme, reason, and relevance to the true embodiment of what it means to live.

With Netflix, YouTube, and social media, it's easy to become a slave to instant gratification. While these things are in their own right wonderful, they, despite their purpose being to connect us, have left us more disconnected than we ever were.

Take a break from modern media, and pick up a novel. Particularly one that has been owned and read before. Breathe that book smell. Let your mind wonder about those who read it before you. Contemplate the meanings that others have drawn from these words. Or don't do that. But at least let the stories and anecdotes consume and shape you.

Here's to turning pages, and turning corners!
