Mmm homemade bread! I don't know what's better, the smell of fresh bread cooking or the actual taste! My family loves both!
I thought making bread was going to be hard. I thought it was so much easier to just go to the store and buy a loaf of bread. I didn't want to knead dough, wait for it to rise and then wait to bake it. Boy was I ever WRONG! Yes it's easier to go to the store but it's not hard to make and it TASTE way better then store bread. Just saying.....
These are the ingredients I use.
First thing you want to do is get your yeast active.
I use warm water between 105° to 115°.
Sprinkle the yeast on top of the water.
This is what the yeast will look like once it's active. It will have a layer of foam on top.
Pour the oil and salt mixture into the yeast mixture.
Then pour the yeast mixture into the floor and stir.
Then the kneading begins.
Sprinkle some flour onto a surface and knead away.
Sometimes you will want to add more flour until you get this beautiful smooth round ball.
Place the dough ball in a bowl with a light oil coating.
Put a cover over it and let it rise. I personally use a damp towel. But you can probably put plastic wrap over the bowl too.
Let sit for about an hour depending on how warm it is. I think the warm temperatures make it rise faster. Basically when it's doubled in size or I can see the dough pushing through the towel I know it's ready.
Dump it on your counter and cut it in half with a bread knife.
Place in well greased bread pans. This recipe calls for 2 loaves. But really I could probably turn it into 3. Place them in the pans like this.
Place the towel over both pans and let it rise again.
It will double in size again.
Layer with an egg wash.
All ready to go in the oven. 350° for 30 to 45 minutes.
Place on a cooling rack right away.
Slice when warm or cold. We love fresh warm bread right out of the oven with a little butter.

Good tutorial and the bread looks delicious. I remember how excited I was discover bread making wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be. It was that success that pushed me into doing a whole lot more baking and cooking because I realized if I could make bread, a lot of other things were probably just as doable. Like Greek yogurt. Which is really expensive, but turns out to be really easy to make.

I have always loved cooking! Cooking for others has always been so rewarding to me. But I hated baking. There's a big difference between baking and cooking. Once I started making bread, other baking things seemed easier. Even just making things from scratch, like elephant ears or tortillas didn't seem so hard.
