CARAMBOLA or STARFRUIT IS A 'SWEET AND SOUR' FRUIT THAT IS GREAT TO USE IN SMOOTHIES, JUICES AND EVERYDAY COOKING. IT COMES IN LARGE AND SMALL SIZES, THEY HAVE AN APPLE LIKE TASTE ; THE SMALLER ONES ARE SHARPER, LIKE A 'GRANNY SMITH' APPLE , WHILST THE LARGER FRUITS ARE SWEETER .
BENEFITS OF STARFRUIT
Fiber, Protein, Vitamin C, Vitamin B5, Folate, Copper Potastium,and Magnesium.
Starfruit are low in calories but high in Vitamin C and Fibre. There are beneficial plant compounds within starfruits that suggests they are good for helping reduce inflammation and lower cholestrol
PINAPPLE AND STARFRUIT SMOOTHIE
1 star- fruit, skin can be left or removed - seeds removed
1 cup pineapple, cubed (tin of pinapple ok to use)
1 small banana, peeled (can substitute with pear, if desired)
3 cups curly kale, stems removed
8 ounces water
* You can also use coconut water, if you want it creamier, swap the water for coconut milk, almond milk or unsweetened soya milk.
Blend all the ingredients until smooth
Pour in to glasses and ENJOY :)
