A lesser known and not nearly as fancy way to salvage stale bread is to make something called "popara" which is basically putting butter and feta cheese with the bread, then pouring hot milk or water and covering the bowl for a few minutes. It sounds kind of strange, but I personally love it and eat it for breakfast quite often.
