On this day in 2017 I was finishing the paint on my studio

It was this day in 2017; It was exactly this day, December 18th. I was finishing the paint on my very first recording studio. I was reminded of the photo thanks to good ol' Google Drive.

My "recording studio", which didn't even have a logo yet, consisted of two rooms in an office building.

The blue room you see closest to you is the recording area and the room in the back is the control room.

This is Jack almost finishing the first coat in the control room.

Here's what it looked like sitting in the recording engineer's chair looking back at the blue room you just saw. There would eventually be a double pane glass door (which I still have)

Here's my friend Jose Luis "el Che" trying out the guitar and microphone. We had just received our first real microphone, a Neumann TLM103 large diaphragm condenser. We were about to get serious!

And this is proud me smiling from ear to ear seeing my dream project almost complete.

We still needed to get some sound absorbing panels made, so it was not yet finished. We headed down to the hardware store and bought a bunch of 2x2s beams and had them cut into 2 feet x 4 foot frames to fit the Rockwool sheets.

After the panels were put together, it was time to hang them on the ceiling and walls

Things were starting to come together now.

I figured I'd get the drum set installed to see what it would look and sound like. We couldn't even fit more than one instrument at a time. If we had to record drums, we'd have to put together the kit and set up the mics. I also only had a 8 input interface. After recording drums, we had to break down the kit and stick it in the corner of the control room to make room for another instrument 😄IMG-20180116-WA0009.jpeg
Control room is almost ready. Just need to hang some art and some acoustic sponge.

This is what the painted studio looked like with the sound panels installed. I still needed to install the glass door that separates the control room from the recording room, but it felt very much ready to go that day seven years ago.

It was shortly after finishing the studio that I got my very first gig. It was a social media ad for a shoe company. We did the job for VERY cheap, just so I could build up my portfolio of services. I wanted to show the next potential client what I was capable of and I needed to show some of my work.

I'll ad the finished video when I find it.

The new studio is a lot nicer now and fully staffed. Here are a few images of the space:

Here's a live-in-studio recording session I did for a band called Gravity Dub.

And another session we did for Dominique Hunziker:

Man, it's such a good feeling going down memory lane and looking back to where my business started.
As many things in life, we are evolving and our marketing services are growing through our business unit Yellow Cherry Media (@yellowcherry), which works out of the same building. This is how I envision the offices at Yellow Cherry by the end of 2025:

You’re in Guatemala yeah? I’m booking my flight! Your studio looks amazing and I want to come and play!

@steevc is right, Hive has all of the potential to grow as a platform for musical people, sound designers and so on.

Let’s spread the word!

!PIZZA

I'm trying to show musicians how easy it is to earn some cryptocurrency by sharing your art on this platform. Getting on Spotify is good because your friends and fans can listen to your work easily, but in my opinion, places like HIVE is where the daily drip comes from.

Please come! I'm in Guatemala City in a neighborhood with lots of airbnbs. I'd love to have you in the studio.

There is endless potential here for artists to grow but hive itself needs more people both consumers and creators. All we can do is show people the way and they’ll come.

I’ll try and visit as many places as I can in my lifetime and wish to meet as many Hivians as I can.

That must have been an exciting time. There is so much to think about when designing a studio and it may have to adapt over time. I know the @stickupboys built something fairly recently. We really need to get more recording and music people on Hive.

I could be a foot model! Just have to wear some shoes and the face doesn't matter :)

Haha 😆 I've seen your feet after a good run. You could be a sock model for sure 🧦. Yeah, We definitely need more recording and music people around. I'll be making much more content now and who knows, maybe I could help attract some to this amazing place.

El color azul es uno de los favoritos de nuestros clientes. También lo uso cuando tengo que dar las noticias en el mundo de cripto.

7 years passed it's a lot of time, you should post a picture of how it is now

I did. There's a video at the end of my post with a recording session done in my studio.
