1986-1987 Ahhhh that magical 2 year period where Metal meets Hip Hop and spawns a new generation of noise for our listening pleasure. Kerry King, the lead guitarist from the group Slayer, who also played the guitar part in the Beastie Boys hit song 'No Sleep Till Brooklyn', once did an interview and was asked about the song...I am paraphrasing this part, but it basically went like this...
"Kerry, what are your feelings of the 'No Sleep Till Brooklyn' song that you did with the Beastie Boys?"
Kerry replied.."I fucking hate it"
Now this was an important time for me in music...Slayer and the Beastie Boys are my 2 favorite bands at the time. They had gone so far into the opposite realms of music for that time and collaborated two genres into a single song and had created one of the biggest hits on the radio. I was stunned. So was the magazine interviewer, lol. So speculation was, this type of song or style will never happen again. Well here's the song that started it all and a few videos (below) of what this one iconic song started back in the days of Generation X. I have added a few tracks from the movie Judgment Night, which the entire album is metal/hip hop collabs, along with a few solo songs where rappers added metal, or when rockers made a rap or heavily influenced by rap/electronic style of song.
