Getting New People Onto Steem - Here's an Example of Successfully Recruiting Someone New to Steemit!

in #recruitment7 years ago

It can be intimidating to try and recruit your friends onto Steemit. I wanna wrap up today's posts with an example of a successful "sales pitch" that I pulled off today.

It's never easy to get someone to join... I think the key is, you can't force it. You have to be receptive to other peoples' energy, noticing when the opportunity to explain Steemit comes up. This is something I have just started to learn, after many failed recruitment attempts! It isn't easy!

Why Recruit New Users?

I'd like to be very clear: the reason I recruit new users is because I genuinely believe steem is a good idea for them. It's not selfish and it isn't about trying to make any money or derive any immediate benefit for myself.

The only "selfish" motive I have is that I'd love to get more of my friends here, to have more of my own community and maybe gain some influence over time. I know that if I can bring talented people onto this platform, it's good for everybody - content creators, the new users, and even lurkers who would love more great content.

That's why I think we need to wait and only "pitch" steem to those who have an active need for it. Some people don't really want to work for a new source of income, and they may have plenty of websites they already like. Those people, why bother trying to recruit?

How it Went Down

I see this post:

My Steem sense tingles. A new song every day is rad, but soundcloud is a weird platform to do it on. In my experience, if you're going to post EVERY DAY, Steem is the place to be. It's built for regular content and has the best monetization of any site for up-and-coming artists / creators.

So, I go ahead and take a stab at it. I recommend that he check out Steem:

Isn't that easy?! When you find somebody who really could benefit from steem, it's not a hard sell. In this case it helps that I've already been interacting with Hélio for a while in this Facebook group ("the math rock / post rock exchange"), so we have some background.

It might not work as well as a true "cold call" kind of scenario. In fact, the members of this group are possibly familiar with Steem since I've posted several of my Steemit Open Mic videos over there.

Do you have any tips on how to recruit awesome new people to join steem? Let's talk about it in the comments.

Thank you for sharing! I just got here but have already tried to get some of my friends interested so definately relevant. I think the person you recruit probably have to be abit tired of the staus quo or just have a curious speculative mind at this point? Before the whole thing get more developed.

This seems more important than what actual content they have for me. But maybe I just wasn't savy enough to persuade yet :)

Yeah they definitely need to be in the right mindset. I think otherwise, even if they sign up, they won't necessarily post or actually use the account.

It has taken me eight months to figure out how to share the Steem message... not the easiest thing to do, but it's worth it.

Nice way to drive people to steemit. It sounds more genuine unlike regular sales pitch. I have my faith, steemit is gonna be one of the social media platform.

I hope so - it's a great platform, but I do think we need a lot more people so that we can develop sub-communities. For example, in music, I play progressive rock and weird electronic music - so when I talk to singer-songwriters, I respect them, but there is often not much to talk about.

The same is probably true in many areas - sports, technology, art, philosophy, politics... they're huge, broad fields. We gotta get more people to properly populate the various niches... and hence, the recruitment :-)
