Have a look at the Precious Plastic project, these guys and girls are going global and guess what, exactly a month from now the project will kick-off version 3.
The project enables people all around the globe to monetize on plastic waste.
They developed a shredder:
An injection machine:
And they have created several other tools to recycle plastic and make new use of it instead of being trash in the ocean that kills the sealife / food supply for a large portion of the human population.

This is a really cool concept @bifilarcoil! I would assume this is somewhat like 3D printing/additive manufacturing. Nice that this could potentially reduce the need for filament purchases, given as it can be made with this plastic shredder.
the main focus is on recycling big amounts of plastic, they have a machine to make filament though i'm not sure if thats already good enough, just have a look on their website for more details
