World Red Cross Day is also known as World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day which is observed every year on 8th May by celebrating volunteers for their unprecedented contribution to the people in need. This day celebrates the birthday of Dunant Henry who had generated a Red Cross Committee of the International (ICRC) in 1863 in Switzerland, Geneva. He was born on 8th May 1828 and also was the winner of Nobel Peace prize.
One may think of why such day is worth celebrating. Most amazing people I've met are people who love services to humanity. And this is the core of what Red Cross Society stand to preach. Our fundamental principles include humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity, and universality. In an effort to ensure people are compassionate to all, regardless of their ethnic, religious, or national heritage, Red Cross Society is doing the most by celebrating such essence of human existence today. A lot of people around us during accidents and emergency cases deserve good first aid care and Red Cross is always ready to serve and this over the years NRCS have been delivering perfectly well. I am so happy identifying with the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Ogun State Branch.
*A lot I've learnt from most veteran members, my boss inclusive and I'm open to learn more and keep contributing my little quota. This is a day heroes who sacrifice their time, talent and treasure to make sure that others are saved during disasters, accidents and other pressing needs are celebrated. Great blood donors aren't left out as well. And I'm proud to say I've donated blood for altruistic purposes for 16times and I celebrate with other heroes today. As the theme of World Red Cross Day 2018 is “Memorable smiles from around the world” let us continue to return smiles on the faces of victims through our volunteering today. Happy World Red Cross Day 2018.
