Winning Isn’t Always the Goal 获胜不一定是目标

Almost in every game or competition, the goal of the participants is to be the winner. However, winning is not always the goal. If it is, we may only become the apparent winner, but indeed the loser. Below are just a few examples:

Whenever there is a conflict between a couple or two friends, both the parties should not focus on winning. If a party has won, whereas the other party has to suppress oneself to cease the argument, overtime they both suffer the consequence of a poor relationship.

In a society that utilises competition to boost up performance, there are so-called winners and losers. The losers are the first victims. And overtime, the negative effect of competition would also affect the winners. At time the big disparity between the rich and the poor may lead to civil war which turns the rich to be the victim.

There are a father and a mother who organise a birthday party for their son. Game is being conducted for the birthday boy and his neighbour kids. And the boy is smart and keeps winning. Then, the parents suggest to their son to let his friends to have the chance to win. Surprisingly, the boy bursts out crying. He feels being treated unfairly. Certainly, he has missed the intention of the suggestion to let others winning is to foster fun and friendship.

Therefore, what is the goal of a game, an examination or an endeavour? It may not be about winning. But, it could be for the benefit of everybody or joyful achievement of all the participants. Hence, winning is not the objective of everything.

几乎在每场比赛，参赛者的目标都是要成为赢家。然而，获胜不一定是目标。有时候所谓的勝利可能只会令人成为表面上的赢家，但事实上却是输家。以下是几个例子：

每当一对夫妻或两个朋友发生冲突时，双方都不应该专注于个人的胜利，如果一方赢了，而另一方又不得不压制自己以停止争论，随着时间他们这会形成了彼此之间不良好的关系。

在透过竞争以提升业绩的社会，有所谓的赢家和输家。而失败者常是第一个受害者，而竞争的负面影响也会最终影响赢家。在一个贫富有巨大差距的社会，到一个地步什至会导致内战，使富人首当其冲成为受害者。

有一位父亲和母亲为他们的儿子开生日会，而節目则包括了游戏。这个男孩很聪明，游戏中一直是赢家。然后，他父母建议他让朋友有机会获胜；令人惊讶的是，这个男孩却哭了起来。他觉得要他放弃赢乃是不公平的。当然，他还不了解让别人获胜是为了培养乐趣和友谊。

所以，倒底考试或比赛的目的是什么？它可能不是为了获胜。而是可能为了每个人的好处或要让所有的参与者快乐及有所成就。因此，获胜并不一定是所有事情的目标。
