THE MASTERS TASK FOR HIS DISCIPLES
MARK 6:7-13
7 And He called the twelve to Himself, and began to send them out two by two, and gave them power over unclean spirits. 8 He commanded them to take nothing for the journey except a staff—no bag, no bread, no copper in their money belts— 9 but to wear sandals, and not to put on two tunics.
10 Also He said to them, “In whatever place you enter a house, stay there till you depart from that place. 11 And whoever[a] will not receive you nor hear you, when you depart from there, shake off the dust under your feet as a testimony against them.[b] Assuredly, I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city!”
12 So they went out and preached that people should repent. 13 And they cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many who were sick, and healed them.
COMMENTARY:
Jesus sent his disciples on evangelism with authority over unclean spirits. Similarly, Mark 15:16 tells us that we are sent to families, schools, workplaces, communities, etc., to preach, heal and deliver those in bondage. In Luke 10:19,, we are slao given power over the works of the enemy. How active have been in carrying out this greatcommission by ourLord Jesus Christ?
Jesus outlined important principles for this great task (vv8-10). He emphasized living by faith when he instructed them to void extra baggage. Their priority should be on the gospel. They should utterly depend on God for daily provision. Unfortunately, some preachers emphasize money, clothes and other personal comfort,to the detriment of the gospel.
Finally, Jesus taught his disciples not to force the gospel on any man (v10). How sad it is to think that men and women think that they can convert their spouses, children, workmates, etc.he bible tells us that it is the Holy Spirit that convicts people of sin, righteousness and judgment (John 16:7-11). Our work is to get committed to the Masters task of evangelism wherever we are. As we do this, God will back us up with the miracles as experienced by the disciples in verse 13.
Prayer: Lord help me to be committed to the task of evangelism wherever i find myself.
