One of my favourite saints. The one message we are to take from is, "empathy". and begins at the very beginning of his life were he regrets turning away a beggar and runs after him to give him alms.
The poem "Let make me an instrument of peace" is well known of course and was even quoted by Margaret Thatcher when she became the Prime MInister of the UK in 1979. I remember it well.....here is the clip if you are interested;
