I believe Sitchin's book, The 12th Planet, covered this and how the gods were operating on a different metric of time. The Bible actually validates that theory too.

2 Peter 3:8

"8 But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day."
