Secondly, he is the Vatican treasurer. He therefore knows a lot of secrets. I can't see him leaving if he doesn't want to go.

He is a cardinal. That is the rank from which the next pope is chosen. The fact that he will be charged alone is huge. He would not be charged if there wasn't enough evidence.
So, do you think he'll become the next pope?
