13 You are the salt of the earth: and if the salt fades away, with what will it be salted? It is worth nothing more, but to be thrown out and trampled by men.

14 You are the light of the world: a city set on a hill cannot be hidden.

15 Nor does a lamp come on and be placed under a bushel, more on the lampstand, and all who are at home.

16 Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

Salt that element so valued in ancient times, as we can see in the book of Leviticus Chapter 2 Verse 13 where it says “And you will season with salt every offering of your present; and you will never miss your salt from the covenant of your God: in every offering of yours you will offer salt. ”Show the importance of that element at the level of religious worship.

In culinary terms it is also very important because it allows the seasoning of a good dish, so that it makes its taste pleasant, well, God gives us as an example of how we should be like the salt that gives flavor to food, it does not give us a choice if it is an tasteless salt to taste, but it tells us, we must be the salt that gives flavor to a stew,

Christians are called to be salt with a taste of truth, peace, justice and humility, so that we are a living example, so that he who knows us and relates to us, not for our boast, but because we give testimony of our love for God and the teachings of Jesus.

But it also calls us to be Light, the Light we all know and that allows us to see in the dark any defect of the ground that we step in such a way that we do not stumble, because well sin, evil and suffering are obstacles in the middle of the dark and Jesus asks us to be bearers of the Light of Christ that illuminates the ground on which we walk, but beyond that, that we be the light that illuminates the path of other men to guide them in the path of salvation by the hand of the God's Love.

We cannot fail to recognize that the Light, you can be annoying to many, because, being enlightened, the evil that we have in our hearts will be perceived and that will cause in many of us annoyance, which will result in rejection for many of us, because it can result in conflicts within the family, society and even more, have legal consequences, for the person, but even so, with all its consequences, for the love of God we must become what Jesus asks us to become "Light of the world".
