FULFILLING SCRIPTURES
📖 TEXT: MATTHEW 26:47-57
🔑 📖 KEY VERSE: “But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled” (MATTHEW 26:56).
An interesting thing about predictions is that they are often wrong, even when they are given by so-called prophets and seers. In the past, many false prophets have predicted and given dates that the world would end and it never happened. In contrast, all Old Testament Prophecies about Christ during His first coming were fulfilled, giving us the assurance that the remaining ones about His Second Coming will be fulfilled also.
Christ offered no resistance even though He had more means to defend Himself and prevent His arrest if He wanted to do so.
The passion of Jesus Christ stands alone as the most important event creation has ever known. Long before the world began, God had planned that the crucifixion of Jesus would be the only means that would reconcile sinners to a holy and loving God. He provided us a road map and foretold various signs and conditions through the Old Testament prophets that human kind should watch for so that the Messiah would be recognized and believed. Over 300 prophecies in the Old Testament about Jesus' life, death and resurrection are fulfilled already.
Mathematically speaking, the odds of anyone fulfilling this amount of prophecy are staggering. Yet, Christ fulfilled every one of them, qualifying Him as the true Saviour of the world. From today’s account, it appeared easy to arrest and take Him through the mockery of a trial; yet it was not the effectiveness of the temple guards or the Roman army, but His own willingness to lay down His life for the salvation of humankind that caused it. Seize the advantage of this great sacrifice and fully yield to Christ in Salvation and in entire sanctification. To do otherwise is to frustrate the amazing grace of God.
✍ THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The eternal truths of the Scriptures are so settled that they settle our questions.
