I know some religious people in my personal life who are very pleasant but I still think they are fundamentally flawed at their core. Anyone that adheres to a specific religion cannot be a good person. Now before you get all pissy with me in the comments below, let me explain why.
There are horrific passages and scriptures found in holy books that talk about stoning homosexuals, having sex with nine-year-olds, murdering anybody that believes differently, so on and so forth. Yes I know, “but not every religious person follows those laws they're old but the New Testament but moderates blah blah blah”. Fair enough but that’s not relevant. What matters is that as a religious person, they have chosen to worship a God who at one point in time said it was okay to own slaves or a god that said it said it was okay to have sex with a child or a god that said women were to be bought and sold as items. I could care less if those laws were made a thousand years ago or ten thousand years ago.
If you think that a God whoever made those things laws is a good thing, something’s wrong with you. These people worship a deity that finds slavery to be a good thing. Think about that! They actively worship something that said it was okay to own people. That is something most religions have in common owning another human being. How can anyone feel like a good person worshiping a deity that at one point said it was a great idea to own people? One example of justification for this I've gotten from a religious person is “well it was a different time it was a harder time and God had to be harsh”. Funny joke?
You think that because times were harder that it was a good idea to stone people to death ever? I'm sorry but slavery was never okay. Public stoning was never okay. Witch burnings were never okay. Pedophilia was never okay and you are basically choosing to worship an omnipotent omnipresent Hitler. If you actively worship a god that said these things were ever okay and you can justify that to yourself you are a disgusting person.
