Christian View of Muslims

Several hundred years before Muhammad’s birth in c. 570 CE, the Hebrew books of the Old Testament and the Greek-language books of the New Testament had been canonized as the Christian Bible. Examples include is the Codex Vaticanus c. 300-325, Codex Sinaiticus 330-360 and Codex Alexandrinus 400-440, all of which are on display to this present day. Some Muslims contend that the Bible was originally trustworthy, but that it had become corrupted at some point.

I argue then that according to the Quran the above Codex’s must be accurate because the Quran says you are nothing until you uphold the Torah and the Gospel. In fact the Quran says it’s a confirmation of the former scripture and if in doubt to ask those who have been reading the scripture before you.

Muslims view Jesus as only a prophet. The Quran denies the crucifixion of Jesus, claiming that God made someone else look like Jesus and that other person died instead. This goes against the Bible where Jesus tells us he will die for our sins and rise from the dead: Mark 9-31, Mark 10-45. If Jesus is just a prophet then why according to the Quran could he speak from the time he was born, cure the blind and give life to the dead? I argue that Jesus is more than just a simple prophet.

The Quran says you are nothing until you uphold the Torah and the Gospel

5:68 Sahih International Say, "O People of the Scripture, you are [standing] on nothing until you uphold [the law of] the Torah, the Gospel, and what has been revealed to you from your Lord." And that which has been revealed to you from your Lord will surely increase many of them in transgression and disbelief. So do not grieve over the disbelieving people.

The Quran says Jesus was given the Gospel, which confirmed what was in the Torah

5:46 Sahih International And We sent, following in their footsteps, Jesus, the son of Mary, confirming that which came before him in the Torah; and We gave him the Gospel, in which was guidance and light and confirming that which preceded it of the Torah as guidance and instruction for the righteous.

The Quran says if in doubt ask those who have been reading the scripture before you

10:94 Sahih International So if you are in doubt, [O Muhammad], about that which We have revealed to you, then ask those who have been reading the Scripture before you. The truth has certainly come to you from your Lord, so never be among the doubters.

The Quran denies the crucifixion of Jesus Christ

4:157 Sahih International And [for] their saying, "Indeed, we have killed the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, the messenger of Allah ." And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but [another] was made to resemble him to them. And indeed, those who differ over it are in doubt about it. They have no knowledge of it except the following of assumption. And they did not kill him, for certain.

The Quran says Jesus was able to speak when he was born, cure the blind and give life to the dead

3:46 Sahih International He will speak to the people in the cradle and in maturity and will be of the righteous."

3:49 Sahih International And [make him] a messenger to the Children of Israel, [who will say], 'Indeed I have come to you with a sign from your Lord in that I design for you from clay [that which is] like the form of a bird, then I breathe into it and it becomes a bird by permission of Allah . And I cure the blind and the leper, and I give life to the dead - by permission of Allah . And I inform you of what you eat and what you store in your houses. Indeed in that is a sign for you, if you are believers.
