You may be right. The People of the Book (Jews and Christians) are scheduled to get the stuffing kicked out of them by somebody just before Jesus shows up and rescues the few who survive. We don't really know who that somebody is. We are just told that this "beast" is an anti-Christian religious empire that denies the Father and the Son.

Who is the liar, if it is not the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, who denies the Father and the Son. No one who denies the Son can have the Father; whoever confesses the Son has the Father as well. -- 1 John 2:22

But the Bible is full of references to such a period of Tribulation where some religious empire other than Christianity takes over the world: ("The saints" in the verses below is a reference to Christians.)

And the beast opened its mouth to blaspheme against God and slander His name and His tabernacle—those who dwell in heaven. Then the beast was permitted to wage war against the saints and conquer them, and it was given authority over every tribe and people and tongue and nation. And all who dwell on the earth will worship the beast—all whose names have not been written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who was slain.… Revelation 13

"I kept looking, and that horn was waging war with the saints and overpowering them" -- Daniel 7:21

We're simply told to hide and wait it out until the Lord comes to our rescue...

Well, the offer is open to all humanity for 2000 years. But it will not stay open forever.

Jesus said, "Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn" 'a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law— a man's enemies will be the members of his own household.' Matthew 10:34-35

After giving everybody chance after chance, to the point of nearly exterminating his followers, he will finally return on what hundreds of passages call "The Great and Terrible Day of the Lord."

At that point, you are right.

When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained. They called out in a loud voice, "How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?" When Jesus came 2000 years ago, it was as a suffering servant to die to make salvation possible for anyone who accepts it. When he returns this time, you don't want to have sided against Him:

I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and wages war. His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. "He will rule them with an iron scepter." He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

And I saw an angel standing in the sun, who cried in a loud voice to all the birds flying in midair, "Come, gather together for the great supper of God, so that you may eat the flesh of kings, generals, and the mighty, of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all people, free and slave, great and small."

Then I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies gathered together to wage war against the rider on the horse and his army. But the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who had performed the signs on its behalf. With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshiped its image. The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur. The rest were killed with the sword coming out of the mouth of the rider on the horse, and all the birds gorged themselves on their flesh. Revelation 19:19-21

Let me correct u my friend JESUS P.B.U.H, was not just a man of peace from the beginning he was also a man of war from the start, e.g what just mentioned he ordered his follows to sale the clothes and by swords, what are swords used for?

We argue about this a lot. I think clearly the swords were for self-defense, since they were each instructed to "sell their cloak and buy one".
Yet we are also told not to get into fights over unimportant things:

You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye and tooth for tooth.’ But I tell you not to resist an evil person. If someone slaps you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also; if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well;… Matthew 5:38-40

Even in the ultimate case where the Beast is about to wipe out all Christians, we are told to hide rather than fight. If caught, we are told to die rather than deny Jesus.

That, of course, is because this body is expendable and we immediately get issued a better one when Jesus returns.

So a much bigger game is being played here than just "war and peace."

I'd still like to understand exactly when I'm allowed to use my sword. Until I learn better, it will be when there is a need to defend my family.
