Of course.
It is essential for photo and film compositions, however in art it's not calculated but achieved by the feeling. If you carefully look at my photographs on my blog, you'll see that almost all are composed according to that geometrical principle. It applies to everything in the world. Like as if the world was created by an arhitect, right?
Not to mention Fibonacci...
