Chapel of the Holy Cross
Another delightfully quirky entry to my list is the Chapel of the Holy Cross, a Roman Catholic chapel built into steep-sided hills in Arizona, USA.
Inspired and commissioned by local rancher and sculptor Marguerite Brunswig Staude after being inspired by the Empire State building, she gave up on the idea of building it in Budapest, Hungary and decided to build the church in her native region.
Designed by architect August K. Strotz, the chapel retains a mystical charm with its main cross seemingly wedged into the red rocks and is an unforgettable sight from every angle.
This incredible chapel, where the doors are always open is to be found on Chapel Road, a left turn off the 179 out of uptown Sedona as you approach the village of Oak Creek.
