Abimelech had taken without knowing a woman married as a wife and was about to commit adultery. But God prevented him in some way from touching Sarah and stopped him from sinning. How much mercy on God's part. How many times has God done the same for us, stopping us from sinning, in ways we can not even detect? We have no way of knowing, but through this story we know that He can do it. Often God acts both in ways we can see and in ways we can not see.
