China's Giant Solar Island Went Online a Few Days Ago

China is taking the lead when it comes to renewable energy, they have build the world's largest floating solar installation.

The gigantic platform has been fabricated in Huainan, a city located in eastern China.
Years ago the province of Anhui where Huainan is situated, served as a mining region for the Chinese government. Due to bottom subsidence some areas of Huainan became submerged under water. The previous land now transformed into lakes where the ideal location to start something ambitious.
This is when the Chinese authorities saw the opportunity to commence a renewable energy project that would surpass all previous initiatives taken before.

There were some major advantages that made the project feasible, for instance no agricultural land had to be sacrificed and no lakes had be made artificially.
Maintaining the solar panels temperatures below the point of overheating isn't a problem either as the water underneath the panels serves to cool the entire system.

With the United State's withdrawal of the Paris climate agreement, all eyes are turning to China as the country is slowly but certainly becoming the world's leader in the production of renewable energy.

So cool :-D! Thanks! And steem on :-)!

Floating solar is becoming an increasingly viable solution worldwide. Recent installations include areas as diverse as the UK just outside Heathrow on a freshwater reservoir (a private development) and in the Seychelles in a sheltered bay (sponsored by the Clinton Foundation).

Great story right up my alley that I would have missed, thank you.
I love all things solar.

Hi funcore,

This is awesome and inspiring. I was just thinking yesterday how I needed to schedule some time to drop by YouTube university and figure out how to power my laptop, modem and fan with sunlight because reliance on "the public power grid" is both ridiculous and unreliable.

China already supasses the US in manufacture of solar panels. China will be ahead of US in solar science research in a few years. It is kind of sad state of affairs for the US, since it was the US that developed solar power technology. One advantage of non-representative government system is that long-term policy decisions can be made without being shackled by electoral concerns.

Damn, clever.. but the real question is
How are they going to go about STORING that energy?

Well...China has a lot of work to do. They also consume huge amounts of coal. The smog in their cities makes Los Angeles look like the Garden of Eden. But yeah....nice to see them playing with solar panels. Calling them a leader in renewable energy? Umm....nooo.

I love seeing new standards set in renewable energy... can only go up from here! Nice post!

It is good renewable energy source.
