Guide to rent your first house/flat :: Introduction

in #rent8 years ago (edited)

I started writing this post as I figured out it could help some people out there who are looking to move into/rent their own flat/house. What to do , what not to do, areas , neighborhoods, negotiating price and many other aspects of property rental. I am certain some of these points would apply to buying a house too, so keep an eye out.

I am going to break this into multiple smaller posts as no-one will have the patience to read a wall of text.

Just as a FYI, I live in London so some information might not apply for every location around the world but 95% should be spot on.

Therefore, in chronological order I will expand on the following topics :

  1. Searching for a new flat. Where to look ,what to look for, what to write, how to avoid wasting your time with bad properties.
  2. Setting up the viewings and feeling the area
  3. Talking finances/responsabilities/fees/legal/negotiation/utilities contracts
  4. Agreeing and signing the lease/ moving in dates
  5. The moving DAY : packing/transportation/settling in
  6. Arranging utilities/ meeting neighbours and house warming party
