Wish you could access that 404'd web page? Ever heard of the Wayback Machine? Also some initial thoughts on my "vaccine" research

in #research6 years ago (edited)

At the moment I'm neck deep in researching the vaccine debate, to expand my own awareness, to share a somewhat more simplified and well-researched presentation with folks, and to try to find some truth here.

Something I've noticed a LOT of is web pages/sites that have been pulled down being linked to in magazine articles, documentaries, and other content. I realized there is also a good chance that many people don't know about the Wayback Machine, so I thought I would share.

I apologize for the terrible audio... I was walking through downtown Portland, and then my video capture didn't pick up my voice at all :-P

How to use the Wayback Machine

  1. Find a link that is now broken, the page is gone, or you know has been drastically changed
  2. Copy the URL
  3. Go to www.archive.org/web
  4. Enter the URL into the search bar, and hit "browse history"
  5. Each date with a colored dot is a saved version of the page, simply scroll back through them until you find what you're looking for. (the line graphs give a great sense of when a page disappeared (whenever it stopped being saved frequently is probably when it vanished)

PS, while diving into this preliminary research, I've noticed a few different arguments are all getting lumped into one, and some of the most important details seem to be missing from the public conversation:

  • There is argument about whether or not "vaccines cause autism"... but everything I've seen is pointing to mercury poisoning as a/the main cause for autism. Many vaccines do contain mercury, but so does fish, municipal drinking water, etc.
  • There is this idea that many parents are strictly "anti-vaccine", but what I've found is mostly people who are pro-safety, pro-evidence-based-science, anti-corruption, and anti-government force.
  • The argument that un-vaccinated kids can be a threat to vaccinated kids is ONLY valid if the vaccines are not giving those kids immunity (which is their claimed purpose)

Anyway, like I said I'm just dipping my toes into the research so far, watching documentaries and congressional hearings, making lists of bookmarks, studies, events, and people to do deeper research into. I'm very open to links if you've got them.

Hi Kenny!
In regard to vaccines, I imagine you're already drawing from these two women, they're MASSIVE heroes of mine, but in case you've missed either, please look up:
*Dr Suzanne Humphries
*Dr Judy Mikovits
I'm amazed they're both still alive.
Love and gratitude,
-Logan

Hey, thanks for dropping that! I've got Humphries on my list (haven't actually dug into her work yet), but hadn't heard of Mikovits yet.

You bet! Mikovits was in the process of being 'offed' when a student of hers got into the lab she'd been locked out of and recovered the important stuff just before it was to be whisked away while they already had her under lock and key w/o any charges. Had that student not shown up with a key when he did, NONE of us would likely have ever heard of Judy Mikovits.
Can't wait to see what you come up with on this subject of vaccines!
Blessings!

Holy crap that's wild!

There are many questions surrounding the Wayback machine and how they operate things. I have ran into brick walls in the past when trying to do research. Things deliberately scrubbed from the machine no doubt... Wayback machine should implement a STEEM/IPFS hybrid system to store all Wayback information. This sort of thing will be demanded by internet users in the future. These centralized tools on the internet hold too much power.

Absolutely, a more decentralized & distributed version would be amazing! My thought was mostly around the fact that the average person probably hasn't even heard of this tool before, and so has no way to access pages that have been pulled down.

I would love if we had multiple options for this sort of functionality; it's really important to be able to access things that have been pulled offline, especially when researching.

Never heard of it... going to check it out. Really interested in your deep research here.

It's quite the useful tool, though it does have some issues as johalfiles mentioned.

Have you heard of the book "Dr. Marys Monkeys"? Check it out. It's a very interesting story that involves the Polio vaccine development and initial deployment.

I haven't read it yet, though it's on my list as I've seen it pop up in a few other places.
