As I've written in prior posts, I enjoy buying and reselling as a hobby. I spend many Saturday mornings hunting for bargains I can resell in my flea market booth or on Ebay. On Saturday, I was blessed to walk into a treasure trove of sorts.
A few weeks ago, I learned from watching Dorky Thrifters on YouTube that certain Bibles sell quite well on Ebay. On Saturday, I walked into a garage of a former Bible scholar and collector. He had amassed forty or fifty Bibles of various versions and publishers, most leather bound and in great condition. I sorted through the boxes of books and pulled out twenty Bibles, paying one dollar per God's Word. I could hardly contain my excitement!
When I got home and unloaded the box on the kitchen table, my wife understood my excitement. I immediately started taking pictures and listed three of the Bibles in "Buy it Now" listings. All three sold on Saturday afternoon, profiting $46! I listed a few others on Sunday and Monday, one as a "Buy it Now" the others in traditional auctions. The "Buy it Now" sold for $64.95 plus shipping costs yesterday and the other listings either have bids that have already met the reserve price or have multiple watchers. By the end of this week, I will have profited $200 or more on that $20 investment.
(The Bible pictured above sold for $64.95!)
It's long been an established fact that the Bible is the all time number one best selling book, so I guess it shouldn't come as a surprise that people scan the auctions for certain Bible translations and special commemorative editions to add to their libraries.
If you happen across used Bibles at garage sales, consider picking them up. Even if it doesn't resell, it's always a wonderful item that can be given away!
Wow, I never thought to look for Bibles. Many thrift stores give them away! thanks for sharing :)
