A lot of us make New Year’s resolutions on New Year’s Eve. Our resolutions revolve around things that we haven’t yet tried to do like losing weight, starting a new project, going to the gym, becoming debt-free, and spending more quality time with our loved ones, to name just a few.
We feel a natural high when we think about the things that we want to do different in the upcoming year. A lot of us run into trouble, because our resolutions are predominately about doing things that we haven’t done before.
We like the idea of losing 40 pounds, becoming financially free, having a six pack, and spending more time with our family. In the euphoria we experience when we make our resolutions we tend to forget that these things require us to take action.
Making New Year’s resolutions gives us a natural high. We feel good about ourselves and look forward to a more fulfilling year.
Unfortunately, most of us don’t follow up on our New Year’s resolutions. We slip back into our old routines.
In order to fulfill this year’s resolutions make sure to set smaller goals. Take baby steps instead of giant leaps.
Maybe it would be wiser to give yourself four months to shed 20 pounds, instead of 40 pounds?
If you want to be debt free by the end of the year, then you’ll eventually need to make cutbacks on your living expenses. Find a role model and ask him or her how they managed to get out of debt.
Visualization also helps you fulfill your resolutions. Find some quiet time to picture yourself already having accomplished everything that you set out to do. Praise yourself for a job well done. Visualize having that dream body. This will motivate you to keep on going to the gym.
Sharing your progress with a friend on a weekly basis is also a way you can keep your resolutions. Having an accountability partner will make it easier for you to stick to your goals.
There are a lot of ways in which you can keep your New Year’s resolutions.
It’s easy to make this year the best year ever if you follow these simple steps and stick to them.
Cheers to a successful new year!
