"WHY YOU GOTTA SEE IT, DAYUM?!?!?!"
I don't really get this a lot but it does happen, at least like once a week. I ask for receipts in between keeping the front end clean and always get that one person that blows things out of proportion.
Some folks from the middle class get uppity and say snide things about accusing them of stealing. Others from the ghetto side of the hood just go full blown ass hole.
One of the more interesting things that I had happen to me was an incident with a woman from the worst part of town.
She smelled like the typical ghetto person, sweat, cocoa butter and shame. I see her swagger towards me and she has that look that most of her kind give to anyone in a position of authority, even one as minimal and silly as mine.
She makes a face and looks away. I ask for her receipt to scan it with a MC-40 and scan her unbagged items. Then I say it, "Can I see your receipt please?" I even say please, big mistake.
She goes full blown ass hat. "UGH WE DOIN DIS NAO?!"
Yes. Yes we are. I smile on the inside. This is my favorite part. I don't really get a lot of attitude from men or women because of my appearance and demeanor. No one wants to go to jail or get their ass kicked for not showing a slip of paper after all.
I tell yes I have to see it. While scanning her items I make sure to take my time. Going through each unbagged item and some bagged stuff, just to be an ass. Most times I'll scan one or two unbagged items at random and call it a day, especially for nice people.
She wasn't nice. "I BETTA SEE YO ASS SCAN ERY THANG BY ERY BODY HERE AND NOT JUST BLACK FOLKS?!?!" Here it is. The number one reason for so much resistance to a little thing, it's muh race. I'm a Hispanic Muslim with a big beard and a very good build. I can pass for white and, when I get a tan, Arab in some cases. My most asked question is "What are you?"
While this is the most used excuse from people who give an attitude it's an important reminder that there are plenty of minorities that shop at Wal-Mart, get checked and tell the customer host to have a good day, just like any normal person. It's not a race thing at all, it's an attitude problem. I get my fair share of white trash and privileged ass holes that come in too.
