I remember a report from a certain news report on Canada last year in December which showed sales at general merchandise stores, health and personal care stores, electronics and appliance stores all dropping, as motor vehicle and parts dealers had an increase in sales. The decline in sales at general merchandise stores and electronics and appliance stores I believe are the root cause of this downward trend in retail prices.
The crashing of these Canadian sales in the month of December deeply crippled Bank of Canada interest hikes which has influenced the weakening of the Canadian dollar against the US dollar.
