Decapping is a time-consuming and expensive process, but the MAME development community has shown a willingness to put in the effort and money. One crowdfunded MAME decapping effort from years ago led to the dumping of important chips found in games like Bubble Bobble, Galaga, Arkanoid, Street Fighter EX, and dozens of others.

Whoa. Those high resolution scans are unreal. Didn't ever think I'd get to see the inside of these chips. Wish I could upvote again lol.
Pretty amazing. MAME is such an under rated emulator. It boggles my mind how many machines it emulates!
