Let's say that by some absurdity in the near future, artificial intelligence will become capable of feeling and of course thinking in a similar way to humans - it should have similar rights to humans.!!??
In general, we as humans appear on this earth as free beings and to some extent are we equal in rights? Well, this freedom up to a certain point has moral limits. Will we end up being equal to those robots that will be present around us in that near future!!?
Yep, what would it be like to be punished by the authorities just because you dared to verbally or physically attack such a robot!!? Do you think we as a human civilization will be headed for such a future!!?

This question automatically takes me back to plots that have been dealt with in Steven Spielberg's Artificial Intelligence, Matrix, even the dystopian Terminator, Universal Soldier, Automaton, Robotcop, Tron, Blade Runner and I know that in more movies these moral dilemmas were raised from many approaches, from the adoption of a family member as in AI, the use after death to control the body in universal soldier and robotcop to how it would be if artificial intelligence would take control and seek to correct the fate of humanity as in matrix, seeking its own survival as in terminator.
It all depends on what approaches in parliaments, regulations, agencies give the concept to this after all they are the ones who standardize, and monitor that the terms are met but to get to that point the world would have to be fully linked to these moral dilemmas, some would care to be part of those discussions about whether or not they should have the same rights as they basically feel, think, act and look like people in some cases others as always will seek not to give them such rights advocating that they would be a good replacement as they can be replaced and a human cannot, they would take roles that would reduce and lengthen the lives of people. Also that in such scenarios the uses of such AI's in the form of humans, to what extent will they be so linked to society, will they be the ones who decide the use and management of natural resources, take the decisions and think and seek to solve the riddles of mankind? Longevity, cures for diseases, advances in science, materials, space and underwater exploration. Whatever the results, it will be interesting.
Yep, a lot of movies and series on this subject. i liked, I Robot, Westworld (only the first season) and the series who i watched twice, Humans (2015), which i can say made me think deeply about what the future of human civilization could look like.
Honestly, from my point of view, due to the existence of certain types of people who will always want absolute control on this earth - artificial intelligence will never be autonomous, because it will be created and of course improved only to be a complex tool useful to those types of people. At first glance, it seems to be a competition between certain types of organizations (here i mean the CIA, MOSSAD, MI6 and the others...I suspect that inside of those secret services there are technologies to which we will not have access at the moment) Or maybe not. ...
Look, for example, last year i really enjoyed the claims that a certain Google engineer allegedly made that there was an artificial intelligence program with consciousness within that huge company. My mind was already producing a single scenario, which kind of fought Genesis (that process exposed in a fanciful way by which man and the world would have been created) - yep, i was already thinking about a similar method by which the first human beings would appeared on this earth. Yep, that's true - the same with the other words that many didn't think had potential. Blockchain, cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin, NFT and look at the little Metaverse, - let's not forget him.

The 'AI' label is being slapped onto many things that are not intelligent in any genuine sense, and so it's meaning is being lost. 'Machine Learning' is my preference. Or when referring to specific software, I'll try using a more accurate term, like 'image model' or 'latent diffusion system' for Stable Diffusion; 'language model' for the GPTs. I think it's more honest and realistic.
Many of these systems are quite interesting, yes, but intelligent? No. I don't think so.
The term 'Artificial Intelligence' is great marketing though. The connection to all those fictional works, cinematic or otherwise (like you mention) generates intrigue and unease and we all tend to pay attention to things that we fear.
I would like to look back at my childhood experiences when I was watching futuristic movies. Watcing those kinds of movies was exciting and amazing. At the end of these movies,viewers would usually comment that those were unrealistic. They were just movies.
I am now in the future I was just watching as a child. One of the fascinating things we have right now is the AI. Usually technology would always serve best to whom it was develop for. We cannot stop development. Tech will propel us towards the future at a faster rate than we previously imagined.
There will just be two sure outcomes. AI will benefit humanity or will spell its doom.
Yep, it's true - we can't stop the evolution of these things that are derived from those fantasy creations that was present during the childhood of each of us. It is important to continuously learn, to try to keep up with these types of evolving technologies - in no case should we be afraid of them.
Ok, from my point of view both options will be valid and this is due to us and different types of mentalities that are present on this earth. Regardless of the locations where we live our lives, regardless of nationality, origins or beliefs - mostly we are all human, but we have thoughts, pleasures, desires and of course totally different goals. Unfortunately, from my point of view, this is what will happen with those types of artificial intelligence (AI designed to do good things and AI designed to do bad things) - something kept in a state of balance. Well, i suspect that i made myself understood by what i wanted to say.
I would like it, or rather, i'm extremely happy that in the future someone in particular would discover a way through which humanity could coexist on this earth in continuous peace, without wars, scandals, thefts or manipulative lies.
