Hitchcock (2012) - Bezil's Review

in #review5 years ago

Here is a biopic movie on master Alfred Hitchcock, who was simply an unprecedented director that has marked the history of cinema forever with cult films like ‘‘Psycho’’, ‘‘The Vertigo man’’ or ‘‘Turn Curtain’’. Played by Anthony Hopkins, the film is about the filming of "Psycho" with its difficulties, its relationship with his wife Alma played here by Helen Mirren.

Synopsis: HITCHCOCK is a love story about one of the most influential filmmakers of the last century, Alfred Hitchcock and his wife and partner Alma Reville. The film takes place during the making of Hitchcock's seminal movie Psycho. (Imdb)

Review: For this film, I think there are two opinions for anyone planning on seeing the film; its either you know Hitchcock, his work, his movies, his life and in this case the film will bore you because it will not teach you anything strictly. Either like me, you do not know it or little (before this film I had only seen "Psycho" and "The Birds", so surely in this case, the film was fairly enjoyable for me. Anthony Hopkins delivers a rather good and convincing performance, supported by a pretty bluffing makeup. Helen Mirren who plays Alma, Hitchcock's wife, is also excellent.

The film only lasts 1h30, which is very short for a biopic, so it is quite superficial. We are briefly introduced to the atmosphere in which the filming of Psycho with its financial problems took place, how to turn Hitchock, a brief wink at the mythical shower scene, the relationship between Alma / Hitchcock were reminding us that behind every great man, often hides a woman. In the same way it does not detail enough the demons which haunt him and the few scenes where he sees his characters are rather picturesque at the end.

Scarlett Johannsson and Jessica Biel are almost absent (Only in the few 15 minutes of the movie), but nevertheless they did justice to their respective characters with an impecabble performance. The few winks on the screen are pretty cool to see. Superficial film so, but it's still nice to watch and it's interesting to see (quickly) how the shooting of "Psycho" was his biggest success and will forever mark the history of cinema.
