You haven't seen it yet? Well, you should hurry up.
Greta Gerwig writed and directed this comedy-drama -I hate the word drammedy- about a seventeen-year-old girl. Set in Sacramento, California in 2002, it centres on Christine Mc Pherson, who insists she be called by her "give" name of Lady Bird.
Lady Bird is too opinionated for a catholic school -there's an epic moment at an abortion assembly-, too obstinate to live with his mother and her depressive father and enoughly ashamed of her neighboorhood to lie about it. Perfectly played by Saoirse Ronan, this a pink-haired high-schooler, like most of teenagers, feels awkward about her last year on highschool and is afraid of what's next.
The rest of the characters are impeccably crafted in a very realistic way which will make you feel emphathy for them.
The relationship between Lady Bird and her mother (Laurie Metcalf) and their inability to communicate is perfectly drawn by Greta Gerwig, who gives us electric -with a high level of veracity- scenes between them.
Timothée Chalamet, the boy from the also Oscar nominee Call me by your name, plays an anti mobile phone guy who smokes roll-ups and behaves in a "cool way" saying things like he is “trying as much as possible not to participate in our economy".
The relationship between Chirstine and her best friend -played by Beanie Feldstein, Johan Hill's sister, I googled it- represents in a funny way the tragedy of leaving each other when you go to separate schools for college.
The film was nominated to many Academy Awards, including best actress (Saoirse), best director, best original screenplay and best movie but didn't win a single Oscar. The dissapointment face of Greta Gerwig at the end of the gala broke my heart.
Maybe the Academy isn't ready to recognize films like Lady Bird. I personally think it is a magical portrait of this teenage girl and it deserved better.
I'm looking forward to read your opinions about Lady Bird!
Like you said movie deserves something but I think it’s too dramatic and the story line is so simple like many other common movies but Saorise Ronan was good though...just my opinion 😊
