Correct about that DSLR part, but sticking a blinking gopro on the chest is kinda obious too to the environment.

I didn't do much of video and I guess the daylight concealed the blink. But I have had a rethink. If I really have to be discrete, I may just cover the front LED with wax from a colored candle. I hope that works :-D
Yeah that would works if you want to go into complete stealth mode.
