Hacksplaining - Learn to protect yourself

in #review7 years ago

is a great way to learn the basics of web security. All of the training is completely free and available after you register. It covers the most common web exploitation techniques and gives you tips on how to protect yourself and your projects.

The process

The site currently contains 20 lessons on different hacking methods, each containing 3 parts.

  1. Exercise - teaches you what the essence of the method and shows you a simplified attack using it, all in a comprehensive, easy to digest manner.

  2. Prevention - goes more in depth in the technicalities and illustrates the means of how to protect against such an attack. It also generally gives you real up-to-date snippets of code to help defend yourself.

  3. Quiz - contains a couple of questions on the most important aspects of the lesson.

What can you get out of it?

At the very minimum the site will provide basic information on the most common exploitation techniques. No need to be a coder or an expert in Kali, and it's a lot easier to get started there than trying to make sense of OWASP as a beginner. You can go through the lessons themselves + the short glossary (which the site provides) in just a couple of hours.

And if you're looking for more you can follow the useful links for future reading which are also supplied by the site. It will by no means make you an expert hacker/cracker (whatever you want to call it) or teach you how to build a web app from scratch, but if you're just a tiny bit interested, give it a shot.
