Movies: The Night Eats the World

I am a faithful follower of Zombie movies, I really like the genre and I enjoy almost everything I see, can be movies, series, books, manga, comics, among others (although I confess that there is a lot of material that well, it's not worth it...).

A couple of days ago I saw The Night Eats the World (La nuit a dévoré le monde) premiered in July 2018 and I thought it was very interesting, it's of French origin, it's located in Paris and they do not really give you even a hint of the origin of the zombie apocalypse. In all the cinematographic work, there are only 5 actors who have some protagonism, of which 4 have dialogues and in fact, only 1 appears in the whole film.

It is a more psychological film than horror as such, it is about a guy (Sam) who after going to a girl's apartment (Fanny, who is presumed to be an ex) to get some tapes, is delayed because there is a party in the apartment and Fanny is very busy attending to her guests. Time later, Sam already pissed looks for Fanny, so she can finally tell him where his things are, so he can leave at once, at this moment appears Fanny’s boyfriend (Mathieu) and an argument occurs, Sam intends to leave, but Fanny tells him that go find the tapes in a room in the back. On the way, one of the guests inadvertently hits him hard on the nose with a camera and Sam noticing that he starts to bleed, locks himself in the room and lies on his back to stop the bleeding.

Wake up the next day lying on the sofa and after grabbing his things and leaves the room finds out that everything is a mess, blood everywhere, all destroyed, but empty. He walks around the apartment without bumping into anyone, but when he gets ready to go out he sees Fanny and another girl sitting on the stairs, immediately pouncing on him and by his quick reaction, he manages to close the door before they get him.

Without wasting time he goes to the nearest window and manages to see how a family runs towards a car, but before they can start it, they are eaten by a group of zombies. Sam immediately realizes the situation in which he is involved, so he knows that he cannot waste time and sets out to secure the building (which is not very high). For his fortune there are no longer the ones facing the door Fanny and the other girl, so she goes down and sees that there is a zombie locked in the elevator whom he blocks the exit with his belt.

Further down he sees that there are 3 zombies in an apartment so he closes the door before they attack him, when he reaches the ground floor he observes a zombie in front of the main door, but with great caution, he manages to close the door.

Once locked in the building, he takes care of cleaning to be able to accommodate himself, when he hears a shot coming from the floor below, he brings his head to the ground to listen more closely and suddenly another shot crosses the floor a couple of steps from his head. Looks through the hole and see a senior couple who preferred to end their lives rather than be devoured.

The rest of the film focuses on what Sam does to stay alive, to keep his sanity, but in the situation, it becomes extremely complicated. One in certain points realizes that the plot deviates a little, but in general, it is a good movie within the genre. And in my opinion it stands out for surprising us by not following certain film clichés, there are moments when one can expect an attack, a noise that always turns out to be a cat or any other easily recognizable scene, but here they do not happen.

There are moments when, as always, one feels part of the moment and analyzes what one would do, but really under such a stressful and extreme situation few could think clearly.

The Night Eats the World is a good movie and lovers of the genre can have a good time both enjoying it and criticizing it.
