EBOOK REVIEW:
In his eBook “Think Big” Ben Pollack is presenting his program for powerbuilding. The eBook comes with an excel sheet, in which your macros are calculated based on bodyweight only. The training program is implemented with the 1 rep maxes, the eBook is explaining the general philosophy of the program, which consists of 4 blocks of 4 weeks each. It starts with high volume - low intensity, shifting towards low volume - high intensity to test in the week 16.
PROS:
Let's talk more about the excel 16 weeks program. It is well structured with some kind of flexibility (you have a range of reps and sets) and you can choose the exercises that fit you the most. The price is very reasonable in comparison to other eBooks which propose the same or less content.
CONS:
As the volume is too high in some blocks with 33 sets in some sessions, the last sets become too light and the athlete sacrifices the most important component of hypertrophy, which is progressive tension overload (if you are not adding weight over time you are not growing).
The part, in which the assistance exercises are explained, would have been better in a video, as it’s too complicated to understand only written. The yoke bar jm press is still unclear to me.
The calorie intake is also calculated from bodyweight only, which is inaccurate, you can’t see the same muscle gains in different bodyfat levels.
For whom:
For advanced lifters on a calorie surplus, who can’t see progress in their lifts from day to day or week to week.
