Project Eden Vol. 1 is essentially an hour and a half long trailer. What a complete waste of time. It's set up as some kind of mystery but it drags on and on with no actual substantial plot points except for the initial set up and the ending. The entire hour in between is absolute garbage.
The movie attempts, as you may be able to tell from the title, to set itself up on biblical references and implications. Daddy is Adam and Mommy is, surprise surprise, Evelyn. Don't get me wrong, the issue isn't it's religious basis, I love genres that follow (sorry to use this term) religious mythology, however in Project Eden, it's not even done well. As someone forcefully raised Roman Catholic, and one of my favourite shows of all time having its basis deep in Christian mythology, i actually spent much time as a teen reading religious texts, dead sea scroll excerpts, Egyptian book of the dead and so forth. So as someone who feels slightly versed in religious mythology without being religious, a travesty like Project Eden is just insulting.
I'm not sure what the following movie will entail but honestly, the important aspects of this movie could have been wrapped up in 20 minutes maximum and added to whatever (god forbid) is coming next.
The basic plot is: Eve has a baby, hooray. We learn the son has serious 'mental development' issues by age 4-6. Essentially a sitting vegetable who is completely unresponsive; does not talk or show emotion. He's being kept in a government mental facility, and Mommy dearest is growing tired with the lack of progress (how original).
Ranting Spoilers Ahead
If you're going to dedicate yourself so hard that you name your main characters Adam and Eve in a film titled Project Eden, why not take the wank all the way? I was amazed their son's name was relatively mundane instead of taking the liberty to go full wank and call him Cane or Abel (I think it's Thomas but I've tried to erase most of it from my memory to save my brain cells).
Eve steals her son back and we're lead through the most sleep inducing 'journey'. It ends with Eve finding out there are other children with the same problem and there's some conspiracy going on to cover up (deep breath) the fact that no souls want to be reborn anymore from heaven because the world is so awful.
The pretentiousness in me has to mention, if you're going to follow any kind of theological mythology, please research it thoroughly before you attempt to write the biggest waste of time of my life. Why wasn't the Room of Gauf mentioned?
Please read more before creating something like this.
