Today, I'm going to talk about masterpiece from one of the best fantasy writes from the genre, Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. I've read it three times, so you can only imagine how important it is for me.
Patrick Rothfuss, is a relatively young and new writer, this is his first novel of epic fantasy. First novel, from trilogy, but only two parts written by now. Name of the Wind and a Wise men Fear with third yet to come. But men, what a first novel, stunning and absolutely art of work, and book that will stay popular through years and become one of the classics of the genre.
Story begins as the Quothe, far away in some distant village tells his life story to the Chronicler throught three days. Name of the Wind is a first day of narration. It's only true record of the legend that follows his name.
Young Quothe, full of curiosity, talent, and inexplicable intelligence, and also of his superiority, begins his life course, which is primarily related to the use of "sympathy", which will, in his name over time, tie up many mysteries and make his appearance more mystical and indescribable. "Sympathy" is a complex magic system designed to be ideally integrated into the world and the very character lines of the protagonist. "Sympathy" is what will lead our Qouthe to the "University" where it will learn to master it. Also, how incredible the story of Qouthe sparks and leaves behind caused by magic, at the same time his artworks as talented musician and rebel also leave behind the legends.
Turbulent childhood, the old and ancient forces that are chasing him, and the promises of love are the circumstances that make the protagonists, of this incredible adventure to mature and receive the character traits that follow up disaster from the past.
Through the Qouthe story, old myths and gods are called to walk the earth. Some unimaginable austerity threatens the nations again. The fate of the young protagonist was merciless, connected him with every incredible and deeply buried mystery and made his life more complicated. He puts him at the center of the event, to be controlled by forces that he himself does not understand.
It's a story of a life journey, an epic life journey. World building is what makes this world fantastic, though far from being original and imaginative. It's simply not as vibrant as the story of the main protagonist - Quothe. The story is written in the first person. What a real refreshment for me and that was definitely the first positive impression when I started reading.
Rothfuss, the genius he is, has very often bravely turned into an adventure for which few writers would decide even though they were celebrated with previous works. He tried to change the basics of the genre, to reexamine them, to go with them, and to bring them back to the place. With his imagination, he managed to write new rules, his rules. It's unbelievable but he did it with such an ability that you can only ask the question "How did nobody remember this before"? That's what makes this work grandiose and unique.
Next to Qouthe, a lot of different characters with as many different characters as the writer had been able to introduce into the story. Some are simple people, others so complex and wounded in the past, but each of them adds the necessary note to this ingenious story. What is fascinating is that Rothfuss tried and succeeded in isolating the fate of other characters from Qouthe's, and at the same time he succeeded in influencing the development of events and the character of the protagonist, making his fame even greater.
The style of writing is also what distinguish this writer from others. The story is written neither too quickly or too slowly, without unnecessary delay and detailing. Every word is measured and tuned to stand in the place where it stand. The wording of the writings is also seen in the narrator's intention to leave many things undetected and mysterious, wrapped in vain of secrets. And at the same time you will have the impression that everything is clear to you, although viewed from another angle is not the case.
This book for lovers of the genre is everything you can wish for, and more than that. I can only advise you to get into the book as soon as possible and enjoy reading.
Words are pale shadows of forgotten names. As names have power, words have power. Words can light fires in the minds of men. Words can wring tears from the hardest hearts. There are seven words that will make a person love you. There are ten words that will break a strong man's will. But a word is nothing but a painting of a fire. A name is the fire itself.

I have tried to read this novel but I can't seem to get momentum. As much as I love the fantasy subgenre. I will definitely try to read it now.
try it, it's great story :)
One of my favorites as well, I actually just posted about a podcast I like that is starting a series on the Kingkiller Chronicles. They are reading through and doing 3 podcasts per book, definitely worth a listen if you are a fan :)
That is so cool, thanks for info :)
